Ron Paul Calling For March On Washington!!!!!!

What about May 11? The day that the Real ID Act is sopose to come into effect?

4th OF JULY - INDEPENDENCE DAY!

The march could coincide with the firework show they put on in DC :D
It's been discussed; there's so much extra security in DC during this time that it'd be pretty much impossible-- especially if we wanted to get a permit in a remotely decent spot.

We don't want people confused at what the march is about. People will think we're just a 4th of July March. We want this to be the Ron Paul Revolution march. Not the Memorial day march. Not the 4th of July March. The Ron Paul Revolution March.

UGH. May 11th is a Monday. It doesn't have to be a symbolic day. We want a weekend because that's when most people have time to go on a cross country trip. We don't want a holiday because it will confuse our message. Just an ordinary old Saturday is fine. May 17th is perfect.

EDIT: Nevermind that's a sunday but still it doesn't give us much time for a return trip. I'd rather be back home before the weekend is up.

:o ok

Will there be people thinking about an RP caravan going out to DC?

June

After speaking with my gf about this, I think we've concluded the first weekend in June (or there abouts) to be the best time frame. It's the beginning of summer, people will be able to organize their vacations and students are out of school. As well as, it's within the 3-4 month time frame, but towards the end, giving plenty of time to organize for permits, entertainment, route planning and so forth.

Opinions?

Talk to your meetups. Maybe they can work out transportation. Otherwise you might have to foot the bill yourself.
Ya, I was thinking things like 'Bikers for Ron Paul' for a long haul...
It would be cool to have a caravan going out with RP signs on their cars/vans/motor homes etc. and people can join in along the way.

Although I like the weekend of the May 17th...right before Memorial Day and July 4th, so as to remind all why we have those holidays...

I have to say, doing it May 10 or 11th could make sense too. After May 11, it might be harder for some to get across country. We do not know how strict it will be on the onset.

First weekend in June also makes sense with most schools being out.

Anytime after the 11th would be interesting if they cracked down too hard. What if people get stuck at airports trying to get out, wearing RP shirts? If the media picked that up, it could help the cause.

So, maybe we need a poll...

May 10th or 11th (Real ID goes into affect)
May 17th or 18th (weekend before Memorial Day)
May 31 or June 1 (weekend after Memorial Day)
June 7th or 8th

I'm not savvy enough...how do you do a poll here?

Another question would be, if you decide to go, are you a student, retiree, have kids, etc? That would give us an idea of the base of those attending.

May 17th or 18th (weekend before Memorial Day)

June 7th or 8th

I'm good for any of the above dates. But May 17th is my preference.

I can't wait. I'll be flying up from Alabama and bringing as many friends as I can afford in terms of plane tickets. :D

I think June would be the best time. It is after schools are out and it is the time when more people start going on vacation. It also gives people time to plan and save to go.

How about a weekend music festival from July 6,7,8 weekend?

You guys, before we pick a date - I think we should run it by the campaign, just in case for some reason one of the days is better for Paul's schedule than the other.

It looks like it's down to one of the two June dates, either the 7th or 21st!

(my vote was the constitution day, the 21st, but we should have someone contact Paul!)

I wonder if the Foo Fighters would be willing to do a little concert, aren't they RP fans?

I'm in for Washington D.C. rally!

Maybe the official campaign can invest a little money on permits if necessary, a big stage and a public address system. A big enough stage to expand if Dr. Paul wants a music fest and lots of bands start signing up. Hey maybe Barry Manilow could toss off a few tunes since he donated to the campaign! But bands might be a distraction and unnecessary. I don't believe MLK had bands at the "I Have A Dream" rally.

I'm cross-posting a short list of prerequisites that seem like a good guide to picking dates for the march. See what you think and add to it if you think of other requirements:

The date of the march SHOULD:
-Be at a time when young people (such a large portion of the Revolution) would be available to attend
-Be far enough in the future to allow people enough time to plan ahead to attend
-Take place prior to the GOP's National Convention in September
-Take place in a time of year when the weather would likely accomodate such an event
-Be checked against as extensive a calendar of events as possible, including sporting events, political summits, entertainment events (award ceremonies, etc), holidays of any kind, "observance week/days/months etc", etc.

The date of the march SHOULD NOT:
-Be on a day coinciding with another holiday or other notable event whereby the media could misdirect and misreport the purpose of our rally
-Be on a day where some other large news event is likely to occur which the media could choose to cover instead (such as a sporting event, etc)
-Interfere with any GOP or electorial events at either the state or federal level.

Please add to this list as it occurs to you so we can find the perfect day.
