Ron Paul, Buy a 15 Minute Block Of TV Time. Subvert The MSM! Speak To The People!

You know how them 2 epic movie style commercials they put out.
It would be awesome if they kept doing them leading up to a 30min national tv show.
"Coming soon to a national tv network in prime time: Ron Paul - 30 mins of common sense".

The more I think about this idea the more I think it could be THE key to winning. Think about it, we all like Ron Paul because we've seen him speak uninterrupted in youtube ideos and other alternative media. However, people who only use the old media NEVER get a chance to really hear Ron Paul between the lack of media coverage and the (NON)debates. This idea is a winner!

I know Perot did it - anyone recall what times? channels? $$ spent?
Perot's infomercials are still widely discussed in government classes as an innovative success. I'd love to see the campaign start a moneybomb specifically for this (using "trailers" leading up to it as mentioned earlier). If we want it, we pay for it, we get to see exactly what happens with our money. Campaign endorses the ad - everybody wins.

Would this be more or less complicated for a PAC to do? Can Ron Paul actually be filmed for a PAC infomercial? We could keep people from maxing out to the campaign that way.

Ya know, I wonder if "we" could run some of the videos we made/make? Some For Liberty spots might be neat...

How I Ran an Ad on Fox News

Can't find that anything saying that 'political' ads are excluded: http://adwords.google.com/support/a...uide=1308145&topic=1310862&answer=176110&rd=1

Says,

Legal regulations

Your jurisdiction may have specific laws and regulations requiring (among other things) disclosures for advertisements of certain products or services, including but not limited to the following:

Sweepstakes and contests
Prescription drugs
1-900 numbers and text messaging services
Offers of rebates, coupons, sales, and free services or merchandise
Political election or political fundraising ads

You are responsible for ensuring that your TV ad is in compliance with all applicable local laws and regulations. In addition, all ads aired on a U.S.-based television station are required to meet FCC guidelines.

How about this?

We the volunteers can do the phone-banking, canvassing, etc.

The official campaign can do the narrow focused things to win the Primary.

...The RevolutionPAC... can put on a 30 minute showcase using previously recorded material but splashing it up! (must be pre-recorded as they are not allowed to work with the official campaign). They've put out some great videos so far and if they spend the cash then it doesn't come out of the campaign coffers that are needed with laser focus elsewhere.

(To the naysayers: This is just a fun discussion on an internet forum, its not like any of us here have the power to make any of this happen - just dreaming and discussing. So dream big!)

The campaign should totally do it.
They should do a Black-This-Out moneybomb to pay for it.

I wouldn't let Ron Paul just go off the cuff for 30mins though..He needs a well focused speech with a teleprompter.
I don't want a question answer format. I want Ron Paul, being Ron Paul from the house floor "what if" speech for 30mins.

Iirc, Ross Perot paid for t.v. time which proved to be effective. I'm on my phone, pardon the lack of citation.

if 10% vote ____________ 5%, plus 1
Only in a 2 way contest. This is a multi-way contest, so in reality it's less than that. Also each state has its own rules about winner-take-all or proportional delegates etc. The ways in which delegates are assigned is specific to each state too.

Is it unfair to ask how do you rectify #5 in your link? When and how do you propose using the media - if ever - to affect the 5% to 10% of the voters (or less as many of us are set in our ways) that will win or lose this election?
Sure thing, thanks for asking.

The media is best used to attack the opponents, or to make them do things that you want them to do. In otherwords if you get a negative story in the press about your opponent, they will probably be forced to respond, or it might box them in a corner of their own rhetoric vs their past record.

The media is usually only useful in that regard, and maybe immediately before an election.

With such a narrow amount of actual votes needed to win most elections, the media is fairly useless in that regard again unless its used to throw your opponent off of their game.

This is why it's best to identify and target the likely Republican voters because there are only a few of them.

Since the target is the older Republican, how do we communicate that the price of not picking Ron Paul is, at best, four more years of Obama and, at worst, the collapse of the economy and loss of freedom?

Where/when is it best to communicate that Ron Paul is the best candidate? Media or grassroots?

Where/when is it best to communicate that Ron Paul is the only alternative? Media or grassroots?
Typically what most campaigns will do are focus groups and issue polls. They take the average likely Republican voter and ask them questions and see what they say. They then turn around and find out what best sells to them and use that to market to all likely Republican voters.

NO!

This election will be won by:

1- phone banking
2- door-to-door
3- donations to the campaign for
4- direct mail

We only want to target likely Republican voters.
perhaps it opens with a disclaimer asking Democrats, Independents, and non-likely GOP member to kindly watch something else. :D

then he needs to be speaking to someone. Doug Wead, Jack Hunter, whomever. He does NOT come off just speaking to the camera. He animates to people, only.

I'm not keen on your video compilation idea, but you're absolutely right about Ron animating in front of audiences. Did you notice Doug Wead alluded to doing something like this in his last column?

ETA - I'm a big believer in using the traditional methods, and I don't think that anybody is advocating abandoning them in favor of a fireside chat approach.

But like it or not, Ron Paul isn't the traditional politician. I think of it like this - Plato said "the only character capable of ruling a just society must be one with a passion for truth, and who has achieved the greatest wisdom or knowledge of the Good: the philosopher," and as such I do think that giving Paul a platform to talk to people with his calm demeanor in a non-traditional approach would benefit him. (And us.)

It would allow him to take his message above the depths of the muck the news-as-entertainment industry wants them to dwell in.

But the campaign would have to do it right. Lighting, sound, make-up...the impression has to be absolutely perfect.

EATA: Matt's immediate knee-jerk reaction makes no sense. Ross Perot had big ears. He looked like an elf, not a president, and nobody anywhere had heard of him. He gave America one chat, and was immediately propelled into a 30% share. He didn't win, but he was definitely a top tier candidate. Obama saw the value in it.

The more I think about this, the more excited I get. Think about how the how reenergized the grass roots would get. Imagine that people seeing kids waving Ron Paul shirts suddenly understood the message they were standing behind.

The impact this could have is immeasurable. I am literally almost in tears thinking about how much good this could do - both for the election and for long term America. How can anybody who supports liberty not see the potential this could have?

Jesse Benton just emailed asking for $150,000 to keep the Trust ad running over the weekend, so we need to contribute one way or another, and we need to do it now. But I think we NEED to buy some time for Ron Paul on National TV to give a real policy address to clear up all the confusions once and for all, a pre-recorded message where Ron would look calm and Presidential doing it.

I agree. And while I know it will be super expensive, we should already be looking for a slot where we know the audience numbers would be HUGE. It's September now. We have the holidays coming up. What about during Thanksgiving when football is on? That's probably mucho bucks but at least you know that millions of people would be at home at the same time with tv on. Just throwing out a few ideas. Check this out:

2008 Presidential Campaign Use
Hillary Clinton bought an hour of primetime on the Hallmark Channel in 2008 before Super Tuesday, and on cable sports network FSN Southwest in Texas before that state's primary to present a town hall-like program. Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign has used infomercials extensively. His campaign established the Obama channel on satellite TV networks throughout the campaign season. And, a week before the 2008 general election presidential candidate Barack Obama bought a 30 minute slot at 8 PM ET/PT during primetime on seven major networks (NBC, CBS, MSNBC, Fox, BET, TV One and Univision (with Spanish subtitles)) to present a "closing argument" to his campaign. The combination of these networks reportedly drew a peak audience of over33 million viewers of this half hour program, making it the single most watched infomercial broadcast in the history of US television.
