Ron Paul 2012 operatives sell out to Cruz? WTF?

My knee-jerk reaction is:
“If you love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.” - Samuel Adams

However, there may be deeper motives at work since I can't believe liberty supporters would seriously think Bush-family-connected Cruz and his CFR bailout queen bankster wife are a better bet for libertarian conservative values in 2016. Nor can I entertain that Cruz' people would be oblivious to the deeper motives.

One of the most prominent defectors is Drew Ivers, chairman of Ron Paul’s 2012 Iowa campaign, who says he will not endorse Rand Paul for president. On Tuesday, three members of Iowa’s Ron Paul-aligned Liberty movement — state Sen. Jason Shultz and former Iowa Republican Party central committee members Chad Steenhoek and Joel Kurtinitis — announced the same, adding that they will support Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Ivers said he does not plan to endorse any candidate.

much more at link

They are butthurt about Rand not being there for Ted Cruz's "filibuster", and that Rand hired AJ Spiker for the position they wanted.

Dunno but I have to assume they're more politically savvy and mature than to stoop to that petty level. Maybe Goldman offered more money for their soul. At least Ivers didn't commit to Cruz, only wishy-washy state pols that probably weren't worth a shit any way. Purging the weak hands isn't a bad thing I guess.

The "defectors":
Chad Steenhoek, caucused for Newt Gingrich in 2012
Jason Schultz, state rep that endorsed Ron Paul but was never part of the liberty movement, only supportive
Joel Kurtinitis, was never part of Ron Paul's official campaign despite what Politico and Kurtinitis say
Drew Ivers, has only said he will not endorse

But there are signs of erosion: less than 70 percent are leaning Rand Paul’s way in 2016, according to a person with knowledge of the polling who was not authorized to discuss it.
According to Adil Khan, executive director of Liberty Iowa, Rand Paul's support is OVER 70% of Ron Paul delegates.

That was never an issue for Ron Paul, whose uncompromising ways and willingness to operate on the margins relegated him to the sidelines of national politics. Even at the height of his national influence and popularity in 2012, the Texas congressman proved unable to win the popular vote in a single state and never seriously contended for the GOP nomination in several tries.

Several tries??? How about two.

“Obviously the legacy from the Ron Paul people who ran the Republican Party of Iowa is not good statewide. They failed to raise money. They basically ran it as a background Ron Paul for president committee. They excluded a vast majority of Republican activists statewide and were genuinely not respected or liked,” said Andy Cable, a Republican activist from socially conservative northwest Iowa — a seat of opposition to libertarian control of the party. “A lot of us would like to judge Rand Paul on his own merits but, unfortunately … when he’s hiring some of the same people that his father brought, it’s a question of whether the apple has fallen very far from the tree.”

Andy Cable was a Santorum/Gingrich supporter.

The shit is really starting to fly with Cruz announcing his candidacy. There are divisions within Ron Paul's supporters leading up to 2016 but they were always there. Ron Paul built a large coalition of libertarian types that while grouped together can have very divergent views.

On the other hand, Paul snatched Cruz's Texas field director and his social media director.

This sort of stuff goes on.

Talk about pulling a story out of your ass. As if anyone seriously expects all of Ron's former staff and supporters to be on board with Rand. Rand probably has a much higher retention rate for his father's supporters than Jeb does...

I dunno, seems like leap frog to me.

Yeah, this is an attack tactic that the media is using against Rand now. Anyone they can find and claim (often falsely) that they formerly supported Ron or are libertarian and are supporting someone other than Rand they will report as if it is some monumental event.

"Hey look! We found someone who says they used to support Ron but they don't support Rand! Shocking! Up next, an interview with former Ron Paul supporter Jennifer Rubin, who tells us why she does not support Rand."

So they don't stick with the Paul clan. That's their reasoning and it's to be expected for some. Some feel burned by the treatment during the 2012 election, some don't like the path Rand Paul is taking, there's multitudes of reasons.

Not liking the path Rand is taking but liking the path Cruz is taking makes me think they were just confused/fooled from the start in regards to their support from Ron Paul.

Did Drew Ivers specifically say why he wouldn't endorse? Or just that he hasn't made any decision to endorse or get involved in any campaign yet?

He's probably waiting for more candidates, to hear what everyone is saying, and will caucus for one. I think he's just tight AJ Spiker & Steve Grubbs are running the show in IA. Rand makes calculated moves so Drew Ivers might just want to stay tuned and see how things are going to get moving as time progresses...
