Instead of another "OMZ ROMNEY IS OUT!!!?!?!?!?!" senseless spam post. Lets step back and take an intelligent look at the fallout of this.

It seems he made his "I quit" speech hinge on the "War on Terror". He is quitting because "we're in a time of war" and he believes staying in will help a democrat win. He said the democrats were for retreating from Iraq (which just aint true, sadly enough).

So how will these factors effect Ron Paul:

It seems he wants McCain to win.
His supporters HATE McCain.
Conservative Republicans hate McCain.
Huck says he's in till they kick him out.
Religious voters will be drawn more to Huck than Paul
Reduced chance of a brokered convention.
286 delegates now do not have a candidate

There's bad news and good news in this, but i'm cautiously optomistic. Hopefully Huck drops out and the choice is between a democrat (McCain) and a republican (Paul).

Good analysis. As the song "The gambler" goes "every hand's a winner and every hand's a loser". We just have to make the best of the hand that is dealt.

John M. Drake

The brokered convention option is off the table, I think we can all admit to that.

Third party is the only option available.

I agree with this.

With Romney out, McCain & Huckabee will eventually make a deal to avoid a convention. The party elite will not allow it to happen.

If huck drops we can win delegates as an alternative to McCain and get mo.

Other than that we have no chance through the GOP.

I think Ron Paul needs to give up the re-election campaign in Texas. (I am opposed to career politicians, especially in the House) He needs to solely focus on the revolution right now.

Well, if Huck continues to fight, best estimate is that McCain hits the magic number March 4th. My take - no way to deny McCain the nomination. Best scenario - Huck drops out very soon and we go head-to-head with McCain. Many in the GOP will not be motivated to vote since they know McCain has the nod. As a result, the Paulites will have a chance to gain additional delegates and may show up at the convention with 200 plus. Right now it's all about the message. Maybe we'll get lucky and be invited to the Houston Energy debate (if they still hold it). Another chance to preach.

Many states like NV, Maine and here in Alaska where Romney won, his delegates are up for grabs at the state convention. In fact most states where Ron Paul did well so did Romney, we may get at least half of his delegates for the national convention. Other states where its not winner take all we might be able to split them with Huck supporters to take down McCain as happened in WV. It will be interesting to see if Huck really wants to go all the way or will settle up with McCain now. If he doesnt settle we have a fighting chance. Being a state delegate is super important right now if Huck doesnt settle. This may be a turning point.

How could Ron Paul possibly run for third party at this point? He is a man of his word, and I have heard him, in person, say he will not run third party. Period.

Third party run will do nothing as he will not be invited to the debates. I would love to see it but the system simply doesn;t work that way. If anything I believe the campaign has proved that.

Huckabee is running out of money. It would be great to get him out and get some one-on-one McCain-Paul Debates televised. That could really sway things as the media would have a difficult time completely ignore Paul when he is the only other candidate. The last Cnn debate I saw both Paul and Huckabee were being ignored.

When you go to your next county Republican monthly meeting, be prepared to act. When it is time for what is called 'New Business' stand up and introduce a non-binding resolution stating that 'We Will Not Support McCain For President.'

Do not connect this with a push for RP. This is simply an attempt to fan the flames of party disunity. Conservative radio and conservative Republicans have stated they will not support McCain. We should be in the forefront of this movement. I might even go so far as to say, 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend.'

Wording of this resolution can be formulated to fit your local situation. But I will share from an unnamed source that if Florida is any indication, the chairman of the county Republican parties are NOT supportive of McCain. Provide them cover to launch a 'stop McCain' effort.

The only good thing that could come of a third party run is when he loses (and he will lose a 3rd party run, sorry to say it but facts are facts) if he gets more than 5% of the popular vote, then the following presidential election, if there is another 3rd party candidate, they are guaranteed a spot on the ballot. someone correct me if im wrong?

this 3rd party run talk needs to stop. we're already more than halfway thru this thing. plus no one seems to be keeping in mind that at any moment, bloomberg and Nader could jump right into this thing. We are in it as Republicans and we'll make or break as Republicans. Whatever happens after November is up to you guys.

Yep, the anti-McCain candidate is the way to go at this point.
