Romney's Delegates from Michigan up for Grabs

I went and now I'm a state delegate. In Michigan you have to fill a form before the state convention that states either "committed to a candidate" or "uncommitted". I called up Lansing GOP and had them explain it to me. They said Romney technically didn't drop out, just "suspended" his campaign.

So if you were a Romney supporter you would want to vote uncommitted just in case he decides to get back in. Then he can keep his delegates. I will be firmly committed to Ron Paul.

Go to your Republican county convention (whenever that is) and just ask to become a state delegate. It's that easy. But make sure that you can make it to the state convention or else your wasting your time.

I've forwarded this information around and hopefully it will get spread appropriately in time. I also included the information dug up by Eponym_mi.

Got this tip from the Daily Paul:

If you become an uncommited delegates, you HAVE to keep yourself on the down low. As stated, as Romney's campaign in technically suspended if he decided to come back in his old delegates would be returned to him. We don't want Romney to get back just to purposefully kick Ron Paul delegates off.

Where do you send the presidential preference form and what is the dead line for them to receive it?

I didn't find out about the conference until it was too late yesterday. Is there anything I can still do to help with the delegates? Can I go to the meeting on the 15th and vote?

Pepperpete, the form must be filed with your District Chairman and the Credentials Committee by 6:00 pm on February 15, 2008. I'm still trying to find out how to find out who that is.

I read some where 4 p.m., better to err on the side of caution and make it 4 pm.
lol

It is hard to find who is who at this stage of the game. However, I did e-mail Dawn Wade to send me the vacancies for Romney in District 2. I will take the day off of work to go, even though I just started this position after being unemployed for over nine months.

Thanks for the input, if you can find out who the district chairman is for District 2 I would be very grateful.

No, you have to be a Precinct Delegate (or alternate) from the previous election cycle. The people that went to the county convention will become Precinct Delegate AFTER the vote. However, they can run for the State Delegate slots in their district.

I don't want to BS anyone...the State Delegate slots will probably go to party hacks. However, you definitely won't be a State Delegate if your name is not on the ballot. And our presence may influence whoever is elected. You should definitely get contact info for the State Delegates elected from your district and pass that info on to HQ...they'll want to contact these people, especially if they're uncommitted.

The district caucuses will have anywhere from 43 ~ 179 Precinct Delegates. My district (2) has the most Precinct Delegates of any in Michigan, but elects three State Delegates just like all the other districts. However, district 2 is spread out over many counties, so, people are unlikely to know who's who in the GOP from county to county. I hope that works to my favor.
