Romney "Suspending" Campaign

i say we sign up on the mitt romney forums and welcome their supporters to our side :D

Given the bad blood between McCain and Romney... do you think maybe, just maybe Mitt would deal with RP just to keep McCain out of the White House out of spite?

They just had Romney's speech on MSNBC (and it was a very emotional one). For some reason, he thinks his staying in might help the Democrats win the White House. He seems to think that McCain is the Republicans' best chance of winning. He said that he and McCain disagree on many things, but they agree about Iraq, and the Democrats do not. He didn't exactly endorse McCain, but he might as well have.

My guess about his reasons about suspending rather than withdrawing is so that he keeps his delegates. If there was somehow a brokered convention, he could tell his delegates to vote for McCain. That's just my guess.

Let's all just wait and see what Ron Paul comes up with. As we are all considering every possible scenario lately, I'm sure he has as well.

Say what you want about Mitt, but he would have made a much better president than McCain.
I didn't like Mitt at all, but he was the most likely candidate to keep us in Iraq and keep the economy afloat. That's still a pretty big feat.

I've noticed several negative, hate posts by you.
Please change your attitude or leave.

Do you mean recently, when everyone is getting excited in a positive way about Romney leaving?

I'm not sure exactly how to respond.

Um, the fact is, it makes it that much more difficult to have a brokered convention.

We have 14 delegates or so
McCain has 720 or so

1191 are needed to win.

Here's the schedule coming up

delegates up for grabs

126 on 2/9
119 on 2/12
40 on 2/19
248 on 3/4
39 on 3/10

126 by 2/9
245 by 2/12
285 by 2/19
533 by 3/4
572 by 3/10

then a month and a half

4/22 PA

There's nothing he could have done. A lot of people seem to think "Ah, good in business; good in government", but that's not the case at all. His experience is in business, and balance sheets, not macro-economics and monetary policy, so he'd still have to rely upon his "advisors". And there's nothing they can do, anyway, as - save for the kind of drastic measures Dr Paul has put forth in his prosperity package - the economy is mortally wounded, and will collapse. There's only so far you can go below 3% interest rates, and given that they have cut 1.25% in the last two weeks, it won't take long to whittle the rest down. Then it's all over. They will have shot every bullet in their gun.

Why does it mean McCain would get more delegates?

It doesn't automatically. Only for a practical matter.

When there are proportional states, Romneys portion won't exist, so, McCain would get a chunk of that.

Also, basically, Romney won't be winning any more delegates.

So, instead of the delegates being split 4 ways, they'll be split 3 ways.

Romney leaving though will be good in some ways for us, as he seemed to win the states we did well in.

This came as quite a shock to me. I figured he would have a small comeback and pull it off. This does seem like a bad thing, but now it makes a bit more difficult to ignore Dr. Paul. He now out lasted the second big frontrunner. I am doubtful Romney's supporters will come to us. Definitely heading over to Mccain. I cannot believe Republicans nominated mccain. Not only will he spend like liberals on support programs and social aid, he'll prolong the unbelievably high toll we are paying for an endless wasteful war. Very sad. National debt would skyrocket under such an administration. But no worries, Hillary will win anyway.

Could it be that Dr Paul got to him and convinced him to back him? Wouldn't it be great if Romney decided to announce he was going to support the Ron Paul campaign.

Remember the billionaire who was rumored to be backing RP? Hey! I can hope, can't
I?:D
