Very interesting group.

Mitt Romney has returned to the public radar seven months after losing the presidential election, granting carefully parsed out interviews and timely statements that get more aggressive with each news report.

As the week plays out, it’s all about “Experts and Enthusiasts,” a three-day summit organized by Mr. Romney that begins Wednesday in Park City, Utah pairing up high-profile politicians, tycoons, investors and the proverbial “thought leaders” of the Republican Party.

On the motley guest list: Rep. Paul Ryan, Sen. Rand Paul, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Obama strategist David Axelrod and Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman.

“They represent very different perspectives in the Republican Party,” says Mr. Romney. said.

The conference has a $5,000 registration fee, incidentally. Eldest son Tagg Romney also plays a role: his private equity firm Solamere Capital is a partial sponsor of the meeting.

But there’s recreation afoot as well. There will also be skeet shooting, golf and horseback riding in the scenic countryside, all in the company of Mr. Romney and wife Ann.

What does it all mean?

“This is just the next round in the internal civil war in the Republican Party. Romney is obviously trying to reorient it to be more business-friendly and to get away from the social issues,” University of Nevada political science professor David Damore told the Deseret News.

Since when is David Axelrod a Republican?

I'm thinking that there is going to be a Benghazi deal made.

Since when is Meg Whitman relevant? Is it a money thing?

I'm detecting a stench about this.

Nah, those happen in the meetings you never hear about. Probably the only conversations they'll be having will be about strategizing to progress as a party, and ya know the wind is blowing in our direction for once, so at least they may start paying lip service to it.

Of course I'm not a fan of any closed meetings, so as always will be waiting and seeing whether this may affect Rand's resolve or not, but I don't think this means anything. It's Romney's way of staying in the spotlight, looking like he's helping to reform the Republican party.

I hope there's no Bohemian Grove type stuff. Toga parties, Eyes Wide Shut, etc. There's gonna be "horseback riding in the countryside" which sounds like code for something.

Planning a third party????

I mean, it's clear they've lost theirs.

Where did you get that?

I'd love if the republicans want to take over one of the 1-5% third parties, and let the adults get down to business saving this country.

I'm kind of surprised he left out Rubio, but all the others are prospective 2016 presidential candidates. Romney has said something about wanting to play a side part. He's probably looking at who he is going to give financial help to.

i agree. i think part of the motive is returning endorsement favors.

Serious question: Is Romney gay?

He enthusiastically supported the Log Cabin Republicans in Massachusetts and by executive order started gay marriages in that state against current state law which the court had no power to over rule since their constitution gave that power specifically to the legislature.

I'm surprised he brought David Axelrod in.

No, he's Mormon. They don't tend to get too hung up on what other people do privately.
