Romney Revolt at Liberty University

I have lived and worked in Lynchburg for about 8 months now and I find Liberty University fascinating in its use of doublespeak. Never have I heard of a university with as many restrictions as Liberty, save VMI. Not only do they ban trivial behavior but they profit off of it by use of fines. If that weren't enough, they force slave labor on you each semester by way of community service requirements. For those who understand liberty it is a laughable, backward institution. If they were true to themselves their motto would state: We are "Liberty", now do what your told. This coming for a recent JMU grad who understands a thing or two about doing as they please. If your looking for liberty you can find it two hours north in Harrisonburg. ;)

I graduated from Liberty. I have no problem with them having different politicians speak there (Ron Paul spoke in 2007, and was scheduled to speak this year but he cancelled). However, I do have a problem with Mitt Romney giving the commencement address. It has nothing to do with him being Mormon, Beck spoke a few year's ago and It didn't bother anyone at all. What bothers me is that it's a blatant attempt to help Romney win over evangelicals in VA for November's election; and I have a problem when my alma mater turns what is supposed to be a celebration for the students into a political event for the purposes of winning VA since it's a swing state. I don't think it's wise for people to turn this into a Paul v. Romney argument either, it would be wrong for Paul to give the commencement address this year too (because it's an election year). It's just my opinion, but I think the choice is unnecessarily divisive; the school could easily get any of the best theologians or church leaders to give the address.

I can't stand the hypocrisy of an institution that calls itself "Liberty" and pretends to enforce a Baptist worldview selling itself out for a Mormon moderate. The institution itself is corrupt. It's always supported NEOCONSERVATIVE platforms and has always been used against people like us. It's an evil school and it deserves no respect. They don't respect free thought, which is evident by their ban of a Campus Democrats club, which shows you how afraid they are of dissenting thought. The school is a factory for churning out brainless establishment robots, nothing more, nothing less. Its Christianity is ancillary to its desire for enforcing an authoritarian worldview on all of us.

Seeing how a very large portion of Mormons are coming over to Ron Paul, will you do us all a favor and shut up? Please? We are not a cult, no more than Ron Paul followers are a cult. You claim to be a christian, but shutting out the largest growing christian denomination does not sound very christ like. Infact, it sounds like what the GOP is doing to Ron Paul. Think about it.

**Edit: Appears you are Atheist. Still keep the anti mormon rhetoric to yourself. **

Hopefully there will be such a pathetically low turn out, it will get their attention. Then Ron should speak there the next day and pack the house. That will send a message!

No need for the Mormon bashing. I personally am not religious, but won't use someones beliefs as a grudge either. Plus have lived in highly Mormon populated states (NV and ID) and i might not like the way they vote. However, have meet some of the nicest people in my life.

Good point of view and perspective in my estimation.

I see this as a Ron Paul versus that other guy thing...
