Im going to look for a Tube of this. Seriously Mitt? Since we spend money we don't have and then claim by cutting it we are "taking it out of the economy" It was never there to begin with!!! Funny how now the MSM is calling Ron's plan "austerity" I really hate that word, as of course they use it all over news about Europe. So when you tell a bunch of neocons its "austerity" they think its a bad thing like those 'socialists' in Europe.

You can almost hear the collective gasp from Ron Paul's loyal band of supporters.

Speaking Monday at a town hall style-meeting event in Cleveland, presumptive GOP presidential Mitt Romney plunged a fork into the idea that he could come around to embracing Mr. Paul's call for deep cuts in federal spending.

"My job is to get America back on track to have a balanced budget. Now I'm not going to cut $1 trillion in the first year," he said, distancing himself from Mr. Paul's (http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2011/oct/19/paul-time-cut-spending/) plan to slice more than a quarter of the estimated $3.8 trillion being spent by the the federal government.

Why not, someone in the crowd apparently asked, sparking a response from the former Massachusetts governor.

"The reason," he explained, "is taking a trillion dollars out of a $15 trillion economy would cause our economy to shrink [and] would put a lot of people out of work."Mr. Paul proposed deeper cuts in federal spending than any of his rivals in the GOP nomination contest, rolling out a plan in October that called for $1 trillion in spending cuts during his year in office -- in part by closing federal agencies, attrition in the federal work force and ending the wars overseas.

"I think the easiest place to cut spending is overseas," Mr. Paul said at the time, reminding supporters that the nation has spent trillions in Iraq and Afghanistan. "It doesn’t make us safer. It doesn’t make us richer. It makes us poorer."

Mr. Paul's plan aims to cap federal spending at 15.5 percent of national GDP (it is currently about 25 percent of GDP) by 2016 and balance the budget in three years. Mr. Romney, meanwhile, has laid out a fiscal plan that aims to cap federal spending at 20 percent of GDP and bring the budget into balance by 2020. He, however, opposes cuts to military spending, which currently accounts for about 18 percent of federal outlays.

Speaking at a campaign stop last week in Portsmouth, Va., Mr. Romney drove home that point, saying he will add new ships to the U.S. Navy, add new aircraft to the Air Force and add 100,000 active duty personnel. warmonger....

Those are the comments that piss me off about politicians. their the ones taking that 1trillion out of the economy and wasting it on government. If they didn't spend it that would be leaving it in the economy. IDIOT!

Austerity? There was a whole show where Ron Paul argued with so called pundits that we didn't need to have austerity to bring ourselves out of these problems. I wish I could find the video blah.

Increasing our military? seems like Obamney is getting ready for a war....

Iraqn

His people can't at the very least educate him on very basic economic fallacies?

His is going to cut benefits to the poor to help pay for the war efforts. That is austerity. I don't agree with Romney. We should cut war funds first.

I only wish we lived in a country that had free and fair elections and just one lengthy televised debate on the issues like this one that of course gave Dr Paul equal time.

On the other hand if they really and truly want and like to use physical force to stop us, I'm betting on our team to prevail :)

Oh, and Ron Paul rejects willard romney's socialism and jingoism

So 'Cut Cap and Balance' has already been replaced by 'Shut up "Invest" and go Bankrupt'.

New aircraft to the Air force ? A little memo to Mr. Romney, that F22 thingy, still isn't ready... Do you want something new or simply increase the order on an airplane that's getting more expensive by the day ? New ships for the Navy ? Okay... But why doesn't the Army get any new vehicles ? I'm sure they could use a couple new ones...

Is it such a surprise ? With his record, things can only work out better than expected, right ? :D

Sorry romney... you lost me as a vote ...

I was actually going to consider voting for you if you adopted some of pauls ideas like ending fed etc... but now nothing he can say will change that even if paul comes out and endorces him.

I put the most important part in bold. Here's something to ask people concerned about cutting the federal budget. Is it moral to force future generations to pay for the excesses of today? Because that's what's happening. It's inter-generational slavery.

To my knowledge this is the first time Mitt Romney has engaged Ron Paul on the campaign trail this year. Based on Romney's quotes, that engagement was an epic fail. I hope this trend continues.

Yeah, I posted this the other day, but called it 'Romney refuses to address US Debt responsibly'.
