It would be cool if we could all stay in roughly the same place, I haven't booked a room yet. I got some info from another person that she got rooms 5 blocks from the conference for $89 a night. If you look on the map it is very close and reasonably priced. Also it is right on bourbon st. if you like to drink a few beers after a day of hard conference attending.

www.PriceLine.com tends to give me a good listing of decent hotels, prices, and locations. I often use it when I have to travel just to see my options.

From someone who lives in the area:

These are actually all perfectly safe locations. Anything downtown from St. Charles to the river or anywhere on St. Charles is safe. Those hotels south of Poydras are mostly major chains and that area is very safe. I live here and am in that area daily at all hours. Statistically, that is the safest place in New Orleans.
