the comments from some of you 1 young people on this forum underscore EXACTLY what I'm talkin about..
You have all been so corrupted by modern society that you can't even see it. 2 Moral standards that were in place for THOUSANDS OF YEARS before you were even born were only overturned in the past 40 years.
These mores existed for a reason. 3 They served as the basis for the formation of stable families and stable communities.
You fools who scoff at what has happened to our society really think that all we need is Austrian Economics and everything will be ok?
Look around.....half the damn country is 4 medicated or addicted to booze, drugs etc. All trying to fill the emptiness inside...an emptiness caused by a dgenerate society that thinks "happiness" is to be found in material things and 5 easy sex instead of stable relationships and traditional families.
6 50% divorce.....young people who never marry or 7 have kids.....8 herpes, AIDS, screwed up emotional development, abortions, perversions, depression......
How's that sexual revolution thingey workin out for ya?
1. Young people on this forum? Yes, because we're exclusively responsible for every problem in the universe right now. Your parents' generation thought the same of you. The Viennese Waltz was thought to be the ultimate collapse of morality (all that dancing close together!). This is not anything new. Every generation has members who act just as indignant over the "shocking immorality" of youth.
2. & 3. Moral standards that were in place for thousands of years? Monogamous marriage for emotional reasons certainly isn't one of those. Marriages were about economic security for children, power plays for families, and spreading one's seed. Promiscuous, polygamous unions were all the rage, including sex out of wedlock (wives and concubines were both common within households), and the only difference was the legal and social status of the woman in question. Morality? They call prostitution "the world's oldest profession."
4. Booze and drugs are obviously brand new, which is why Prohibition failed so miserably when it was tried. No one ever got drunk before this generation, and certainly not for the express purpose of drowning one's sorrows, right? You may want to recheck your history books on that one.
5. Easy sex relates only to promiscuity out of your list, or is it your contention that homosexuality/bisexuality automatically makes one more promiscuous? Sex outside of marriage need not be "easy," either. Point of fact: you are discussing things in a broad, generalizing way, and you are ignoring myriad specifics which discredit your theories out of hand.
6. 50% divorce is an interesting statistic. First off, the "young people on this forum" which you are condemning are not married in huge numbers. Second, the divorce statistics are difficult to interpret. Of course there is a devaluation of marriage, because frankly it's just a piece of paper, a ceremony, a tradition, to many people. However, there's also an easier way out of a bad marriage. Instead of staying together and trying to "work it out" when a party is abusive or unreasonable, it's now possible to get a divorce. This is a big change from when women were afraid to divorce due to losing their only protector, or of being seen as damaged goods by society (and most other potential mates).
7. Not having kids is a bad thing? I think it's a mighty good thing! A lot of people are not economically or emotionally prepared to parent children. There's still pressure to have them, but it's not the end of the world anymore if you don't. There are certainly a LOT of people throughout history who should have thought twice about having so many children, or even just one. Children aren't toys. If you're not ready for children, then maybe you shouldn't have them? Then again, some people simply physically cannot have children. I suppose that's another morality faux pas in your eyes?
8. Together with the "world's oldest profession" comes the "world's oldest germ warfare," which ties back to stores of STD-infected women being sent out to border territories to fend off invading armies. The women would act like they were residents of the towns, and put on a mighty good act when captured. During the ensuing rapine, the soldiers would contract all sorts of goodies from the harlots, and would be in a weakened state long before they reached the defending militaries. Read up on Egypt sometime, and find out all the colorful names they had for their diseases.
