I'm really surprised he even bothered to mention Ron at all. Since the poll never showed any results, he could have made up whatever baloney he wanted to suit his ends.

His producers probably were worried that the poll information was available somehow to users so instead of being caught in a lie it's better just to discount the poll results in case any issues come up later it's an easier argument to defend.
