Restaurant Bans Children Under 6

Is that just because of your personal discriminatory preferences?

Or, to phrase it another way, would I be considered a morally repugnant person if I wanted to eat dinner and not have all my fellow diners jabbering away in Spanglish?

No. The only morally repugnant thing is the initiation of force. People gibbling away in spanglish doesn't bother me personally, but I see nothing morally wrong if you don't like it.

You wouldn't, but I'd still question your motivation :p Why is it okay to jabber in other languages? Eavesdrop much? ;)

My motivation would be no different than anybody else who did not want to be disturbed by chattering, caterwauling children.

+1 for that. No offense towards children, but the high-pitched screeching/crying is one of the most irritating sounds I can think of. It's the last thing I want to hear when I go to a nice restaurant to relax.

Not to mention, all free market discrimination should be legal.

This is awesome! I wish there were more restaurants like this. lol

Yeah but in this case it'd be like banning boy children. I am with you about the chattering in general (and with the other person about cellphone use; the easiest way is guarantee bad reception in the restaurant), though. I like nice quiet places where you can actually carry on your conversation and not disturb others, and not have to scream over the music, idiots singing "Happy Birthday," just-off-work folks getting loudly drunk, and the generally circus atmosphere.

Well, let's suppose for a second that I would patronize a place for people who sniff their own farts even if I didn't have kids.... which I wouldn't but if I did, I certainly wouldn't bring my kids.
Every once in a while I end up getting obligated to take them somewhere like this, and it's horrible every time. Melissa has the right of it. Kids don't want to be there any more than I do, and if you make them, they protest.
They're people too. People who take them to places like this are basically denying that.
If you're going to treat your kids like property, don't have them.

I'd rather sit next to a kid on an airplane than an obese person.

We can ban the obese too:

Big men banned from buffet

When does a person get charged double what everyone else is charged for eating at a buffet? When that person is 6 foot 3 and 265 pounds.

A Louisiana man and his cousin have been banned from a restaurant because they eat too much. The two men had been eating at the Manchuria Restaurant in Houma at least three times a week for about eight months. On their last visit, the waitress gave them a bill for $46.40, which is almost double what the regular price is. When they asked why they were charged that much, the waitress said "Y'all fat, and y'all eat too much" (it helps if you picture Paula Deen saying it).

Police were called, and though the restaurant changed their mind and gave them the meal free, they still banned them from the restaurant.
