In other words... back when the Republican party was lead by neoconservatives swamp creatures like Bush, McCain and Romney you never heard the statists complain that the GOP was a danger, because the establishment felt very safe.

I don't think so. All is basically lost now, any goals that people on here thought might be possible back in 08 will never happen. So looking back in retrospect, the Bush and Reagan years were about as good as it ever will get.
