Reporter inquiry: How do you win so many straw polls?

Also - do you think Paul supporters are more likely to want to run for Congress themselves or get involved in local parties, etc?

Name a candidate inspired to run by any other 2008 Presidential Candidate, and this forum could name you 10 inspired by Ron Paul.

Younger? Of course. Its the youth we must count on to keep us free. Our founders taught us that. Because we are younger and more pro-active the internet is a no-brainer. Absolutely Paul supporters will run for office. The county I live in was dominated and taken over by Paul supporters in 2008 when Republicans were as popular as Jimmy Jones Kool Aid. Alot of people have run already. BJ Lawson ran twice for 4th dis. NC. Justin Amash of MI is supported by Ron Paul. Sharon Angle was a big Paul supporter. Some won.. some lost. Most of them were narrower defeats than 08.

The point is simple. Ron Paul has this message. We can be safe and free. We dont need the govt to be in every facet of our lives. We can do the best in the world by setting a good example. That sound money keeps us safer and more free than the manipulation the Fed enjoys. It doesnt matter if Ron wins in 2012. He is going to start a revolution of ideas.

Imagine having a president that comes in peace. 'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

'Freedom brings us together. It doesnt divide us.' Ron Paul

and check out aravoth videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/aravoth

I cant wait for Ron to announce.

This is all hugely helpful - thanks so much. Am curious about a couple of things - do you think Dr. Paul's supporters trend younger than other candidates? Does that make Internet organizing more effective? Also - do you think Paul supporters are more likely to want to run for Congress themselves or get involved in local parties, etc?

can you tell what is out of sync with this snap shot?

I watched the debates and the elections closely. I saw a lot, but apparently I missed a lot. I never saw this one. It still makes me mad.

Maybe we need a thread dedicated to showing how the MSM marginalized and ignored Ron Paul in every way they could. Discuss how we can ensure this doesn't happen this time around.

One 2008 incident that stands out in my mind is Anderson Cooper cutting off Ron Paul at the Reagan library debate, saying "I'll come right back to you" and then
he. never. did.

The more people marginalize Ron Paul and tell us that he cannot win, the more passionately devoted we become in our support of him. The more biased the media is against him, the more fuel is poured on the fire. If I wasn't so consistently provoked by all the unfair coverage and criticism of him, I wouldn't be nearly as dedicated to political activism.

You hit it on the head man! What does Ron Paul stand for? Constitutional principles. So if they black him/us out, they are trying to block out Constitutional principles. HE stands for armed neutrality and non interventionism which is the antithesis of the Democrat style of foreign policy that the Republicans have all embraced under the guise of "we're strong on defense". So when they block out Ron Paul they are telling the American people, "no matter what you want, we're going to keep policing the world, sticking our noses in the business of other countries, going to war against countries that have never attacked us or threatened us and without a declaration of war as it says in the Constitution". And just about everyone I talk to wants to stop policing the world. Ron Paul stand for sound money which would get us out of perpetual debt, restore our production base and raise our standard of living (among many other things) so when they are blocking out Ron Paul and us, they are telling the American people "shut up we're going to continue to drive you and your children into debt".
The policies that ALL the CFR members no matter what party are literally destroying our economy, our sovereignty and robbing us of our freedom and all the media mentions in a favorable light are the CFR candidates.

I am energized. I am also encouraged because three of my friends one a Jindel supporter, one a Palin supporter and one a Cain supporter heard the talk show hosts ALL day today ranting about Ron Paul people at CPAC and how Ron Paul can't win and how Ron Paul is ruining everything on and on and on and my friends saw right through it. THANK GOD! They have come around. The media actually made three more Ron Paul converts today.

So not only does this media attempt to block out Ron Paul energize the existing Ron Paul supporters but it actually recruits more who can see what they are up to.
It's dirty, crooked, evil and people can see through it now.

props.

He wins straw polls because he's the most Conservative, most real, and most honest candidate running for president. People love those qualities. That's why this forum has what, atleast 25,000 registered people? Go add up all of the online forums for every other republican candidate put together and try to even reach 1,000.

I just added some stuff there. Let's try and make this comprehensive and then circulate it virally so that everyone can see with their own eyes how similar the vocabulary used is with all the different media stories on Ron Paul.

But...but...but...how will we circulate it virally if a Mubarak-style "Internet Kill Switch" is ever used?

Kasie, thank you for coming here and getting insights from those of us in the movement. Just read your article and I thought it was pretty good. Above all we would just like to see the most objective reporting possible. We are tired of the marginalization, lies, complete and utter media manipulations, propaganda, and of course ignoring us all the time. In the future you are welcome to ask us for input for your articles. Do keep in mind we do not associate with those who intentionally lie and we have a lot of experience with this in the media. I hope that also opens your eyes to a large bias within journalism. Good luck Kasie!

Cheers.

PS: Also for everyone here is the article - http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0211/49391.html

... While his ardent supporters aren’t numerous enough to win him actual primaries or caucuses, ...

There was a lot of smoke that Paul actually won Louisiana in 2008. Your statement is present tense and unsupportable unless you have canvassed every State to ensure that he doesn't have the numbers (are you going to write another story apologizing if he runs and does win a State or two [or more]?). Past tense (referring to 2008) would have been more suportable, but even so, not necessarily correct.

Otherwise, I enjoyed your article and thank you for the effort you put into it.

Aside from the obligatory disparaging comments, not a bad article, Kasie. Thanks for being mostly fair.

Now, imagine if the media focused on actual issues and policy positions, instead of name-calling, smearing, belitting, and, to use a Hannity favorite, "besmirching" Ron Paul? Imagine an open discussion of how he continously discusses non-interventionism, instead of purposely and falsely labeling his position as isolationist? Imagine if he wasn't chosen as the only candidate who the media claims is "unelectable", to insert in the minds of Americans that they shouldn't bother to learn more about him? Imagine if the media actually propelled him to the forefront with honest coverage, such as they provide other candidates, or media passes as they provided to Obama and McCain with their love-fest for those candidates in 2008?

Imagine.

Ms. Hunt,

I would like to thank you for writing a fair and accurate portrait of Ron Paul's supporters and their enthusiasm for their candidate.

We will expect more visitors to our home here at Liberty forest because of you-- we will give them all a warm welcome.

I hope you visit again and join in the conversation.

Sincerely,

Interesting comments. How can someone like Ron Paul be hated by both the DEMS and REPUBS so much? It's a rhetorical question, by the way.

Ron Paul does so well in polls because he has a lot of supporters. Plain and simple.

Ron Paul got disrespected by the media and in the debates - shameful

I don't think she'll be back. I feel like i was picked up in a bar by a drunk chick, and was used as a one night stand...

lol

Like my friends use to tell me, you cant fall in love with every girl you meet. She did however write an actual fair and balanced article, and will likely be welcomed back, when Ron Paul wins the Ames Straw Poll.
