Report from the ground: Rand is working for it. (Added Newspaper Article)

Yesterday, Dr. Rand Paul did a breakfast in Russell (then drove an hour) a fund raiser in Garrison (then drove 30 minutes) a Town Hall in Vanceburg (then drove 45 minutes) and a Lincoln Dinner in Maysville, and then bolted back to Bowling Green last night (a 4 hour drive home?) because he was on-call and another Dr. was covering for him (for ER type stuff). I saw him speak at the last 3 events, and each one was delivered pitch-perfect, with something new in every speech. I realized that it's no mistake that he's gaining momentum. I think you could hook him to a mountain and he would pull until the mountain started moving. We have got to get this man in the Senate, where he can put that boundless energy to work for our country.

I organized the fund raiser and the town hall. We had 70 at the fund raiser (in the middle of nowhere - the average distance traveled for each attendee to this event was probably 30 miles, at least 12 drove over 50 miles) and 100 at the town hall... in a town of 2,000 people where the winter weather has been so bad that school had been canceled for the last 4 days. Rand Paul is catching on. I watched several genuinely "uncommitted" voters become Rand fans at these events.

Oh, and talk about a fiscal conservative... After driving through the snow and the slush and the ice, we razzed Dr. Paul because we realized his SUV was only 2wd. I told him I thought they only sold those things in Florida. His response... that option was another $1500 and he felt he could get by without it.

Thank you so much for the update. I love hearing about the campaigning first hand. Thank you also for your efforts.

Thanks for the update. I can't wait to move these efforts to other states in in the future. Keep up the good work!

Lewis County

Rand is above all things a constituitionalist. The problems facing our commonwealth and nation often seem overwhelming, but the answers to them are stated in the document known as the Constitution. At the town hall meeting Rand gave a very short articulate speech, then turned it over for questions. He was not robotic, overly idealistic, nor was he in any ways shape or form tied down to talking points outside the Constitution. He did not openly promise to do anything for us, and he offered common sense/constitutional approach defintions and sollutions to the challenges facing the Commonwealth and country.

I am confident that Rand will represent my viewpoints while serving in Washington, because he recognizes what is allowable and restricted by Article I of the US Constitution. He also made it apparent to me, without directly stating it, that the Constitution was put forth to limit the role of government in our economic and social lives.

Lastly, I got to give props to Rand for not only taking open unscripted questions from an assembly of people, but I must also give props to the organizers for opening up a public forum free of charge to all of the people. The forum completely gave me faith that the quote "A government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the Earth" is still applicable.

lol, hes got a tight wallet like his father

You ought to get to know the whole family some time! Start this video at 5:00 minutes into it, their "cheapness" is discussed :p

YouTube - Ron and Rand Paul on Fox Business

But I must admit, Rand has bought me pizza a few times ;)

The work ethic the Pauls have is simply unbelievable. Rand is up to his ears in his practice, but still rushes about to dozens of events. Same goes for Ron, I remember him saying that he studies economics and exercises for relaxation.... (to me, that sounds like work)

I wish I could be half as disciplined and dedicated to the cause of liberty. Maybe one day I'll get to that level. I've donated a lot of money, and a fair amount of time, but my goodness... my idea of relaxing is playing a good video game for hours on end.

So grateful for them doing all this for us!

Town hall forum, Lincoln Day dinner attract Republican leaders

Snow and freezing temperatures couldn't keep the 200-plus crowd of Republicans at the Maysville Conference Center Saturday night away from the first ever Buffalo Trace Area Lincoln Day Dinner.
....
(Lincoln day dinner stuff)
....
Prior to the Lincoln Day dinner, two candidates for office stopped in Lewis County for a town hall forum at Lewis County High School.

Paul and Ditty made opening remarks and took questions from those in the audience concerning health care, the economy, foreign policies and global warming.

Lewis Countian Thomas Massie organized the town hall forum.

"This has met, actually exceeded my expectations because of the weather," Massie said. "For a while we were worried that neither of the candidates would be able to make it because of the weather conditions."

Massie said he wanted to have this particular type of forum for area residents because the question and answer session allows voters to interact with candidates.

"It allows people to evaluate not only the candidate’s ideas but also their character."

In additions to Lewis County residents, voters from Mason and Carter counties attended the forum. Prior to the forum, Massie held a fund-raiser for Paul at his Lewis County home, which drew about 70 supporters. Some came from as far away as Lexington. Not all of those supporters attended the forum due to time constraints and weather possibilities.

Paul is an eye surgeon from Bowling Green who is making his entrance into politics by pursuing a U.S. Senate seat. He is no stranger to the political arena, however. His father, Ron Paul, once ran for President of the United States and Rand Paul was very involved in that campaign.

"I heard there were a lot of Republicans here and I wanted to come and meet them," Paul said of traveling to Vanceburg. "I’m big on the interaction with voters and having question and answer sessions like this.

"Some people that are running for office run away from questions. We like to have more."

Rand's picture made the front page of the Maysville paper as well...

pdf of the front page

:eek:I think this link will change after today... can someone help with that? archive it?

Funny that Johnson is on top. I wonder if the Ledger Independent put Ron on the front page when he was polling 2%? Strange how that works, huh?

Also, saved the PDF.
