+Rep thread for those who have contacted their Senators and House Reps against SOPA/PIPA

Dear Mr. Carr:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate hearing your concerns on this important issue.

Online distribution has become a way of life for business and individuals. It has made access to information and products easier, faster, and cheaper than ever before. While I fully support the internet's ability to facilitate economic growth and innovation, I have concerns about those who take advantage of this easily accessible method of distribution. For example, there have been cases of fake pharmaceuticals being sold, threatening people's lives, in addition to the sale of pirated movies, music, and other entertainment products that have threatened the ability of small businesses to compete in the global marketplace. S. 968, the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property (PROTECT IP) Act of 2011, is aimed at targeting the most egregious websites and individuals and is an important first step to putting a stop to online piracy and sale of counterfeit goods. I believe the American consumer should be protected from online infringement, especially actions that could possible harm their lives. This bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary where it awaits consideration, but I will keep your views in mind should it come to the House for a vote.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please do not hesitate to contact me on this issue or any issue of your concern.

Sincerely,
Rosa L. DeLauro

Yup, contacted Rep. Nan Hayworth, as well as Senators Schumer and Gillibrand today. Not very hopeful though -- they all voted for NDAA too.

Email just sent to Walter Jones:

Mr. Jones-

I reside in your district and appreciated your thoughtful and heartfelt comments about Ron Paul when you & he recently visited the Convention Center in Greenville, NC.

I am writing to you today to express my opposition to H.R. 3261. I urge you to please vote against this bill which will restrict our freedom on the internet.

Sincerely,
Dr.
Greenville, NC.

I contacted my representative Hochul and left a very awkward message because I've never contacted a Rep. before, then left another one for Kirsten Gillibrand (booo), and attempted to leave one for Charles Schumer (more booo) but it kept ringing and never sent me to voicemail. He probably turned off his voicemail because so many people are leaving messages about his lobbyists' baby.

Just received the following email from Walter Jones, please +rep:

Dear Dr. _:

Thank you for reaching out to me about H.R. 3261 – The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). I appreciate you taking the time to contact me and I am happy to respond.

I share your concerns with the SOPA Act, and I strongly oppose it. The bill would authorize the U.S. Attorney General to take legal action against an "Internet site dedicated to infringing activities." SOPA would require the federal government to block websites that are simply accused of copyright infringement, in effect labeling these sites "guilty until proven innocent", with a complicated and expensive appeals process to be proven innocent. The definition is so broad that it could shut down well meaning sites due to a single item being sold on e-Bay, or a single post on Facebook, etc.

Our founding fathers warned us about the slippery slope of government control. SOPA would give the federal government far reaching powers to regulate the internet, powers which it does not need and should not have. SOPA would also stifle innovation and hurt the many jobs that come from the internet. These outcomes are unacceptable, and that is why I oppose this legislation.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Walter B. Jones

most of them reply, even if it is a 'non'reply such as I got from Feinstein.

Mine hate freedom. I've spoken to one in person about TARP program in detail among other things, and he's a total insider he benefits from it so makes it happen. I tried to help get him primaried, but he's a banker, and a PE guy now too though some business investment. I am not against all bankers or I'd be against myself in some regard, one of my first non freelance jobs was in banking on the IT side :)

If I get replies from mine they are form letters with no merit, but I haven't even gotten that the last 3 times.

I helped cut off one of the Hydra's heads.

(I just had to frame it that way because it sounded so awesome lol)

just emailed my congressional district representative
As a constituent of your district, I urge you to vote NO against the Stop Online Piracy Act. The title of the bill sounds harmless but allows the federal government to have too much control over the internet. This bill as you should know, would allow the government to take down major sites, such as YouTube or Facebook if just one user posts pirated content. I strongly agree piracy is a crime that we must fight but I do not agree with the authority this bill grants the federal government.

Benjamin Franklin was once quoted in saying "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." I agree with Mr. Franklin in that we must not give up our liberty to be free on the internet to only gain temporary security for few. Please reread and understand what this bill would allow and the negative effects this bill would cause if it is voted and signed into law

Now I just hope he actually reads his emails...
