+Rep thread for those who have contacted their Senators and House Reps against SOPA/PIPA

I have written numerous letters to Boxer and Fienstien. These bills have been lurking around for 6 months. i just finally got a response from Boxer, it is a standard mailout:

Dear Mr. Keisling:

Thank you for taking the time to write and share your views with me. Your comments will help me continue to represent you and other Californians to the best of my ability. Be assured that I will keep your views in mind as the Senate considers legislation on this or similar issues.

If you would like additional information about my work in the U.S. Senate, I invite you to visit my website, http://boxer.senate.gov. From this site, you can send a message to me about current events or pending legislation, access my statements and press releases, request copies of legislation and government reports, and receive detailed information about the many services that I am privileged to provide for my constituents. You may also wish to visit http://thomas.loc.gov to track current and past federal legislation.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. I appreciate hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator

I +rep'd those I hadn't yet, above this point, but will run out of rep soon, so I hope others will rep those who do this, too!

Done did it.

The only one that told me their position on it was Rand's office.

Predictably, Rand is AGAINST it.

Also predictably, Mitch "the asshole turtle" McConnell's office would not share his position....

Out of the places I called, only one said "they shared my concerns". The others said they didn't know what their position was. I'm guessing that means they support it?

My intern Rep (filled Dean Heller's open seat)is one of the co-sponsors. He's the very first co-sponor... so he's done in his short career in Congress, he is not going to get reelected.

I think they are waiting to see how much push back there is. We have to get it over that tipping point.

Subject: SOPA internet censorship

I support the first amendment. I am horrified that members of Congress would seriously consider SOPA and PIPA. The unconstitutionality of such prior restraint is long settled and was reaffirmed by the Pentagon Papers case. If you intend to keep your oath of office to protect the Constitution, then you must vote against this legislation. If you do not intend to keep your oath, then please resign.

Eh....

If they want it passed, they'll pass it. Or they'll throw us a "win" and let SOPA/PIPA die...

No "tipping point" was reached when 95+% of callers to Capitol Hill were against the bailouts.

But I called any damn way. Later, I may have a conversation with a brick wall. At least brick walls won't try to take my rights away.

Yes it was. That is how we killed it on the first vote and the whips had to go to work overtime, and give huge concessions to get votes, because of the risk, and then we threw people out at midterms, and the TARP vote is a scarlet letter, forever. That is how it is done.
