Important stuff here... If paul wins these in a landslide it could make for some interesting press a la Swan. Shame the judge won't be on to talk about it. The Wead will do great with info like that though. He like's callin' people out with a chuckle and a grin....

bump.

More math.....

According to the 2010 census, Maine has 20% of people under the age of 18, ie they cant vote. Now, the counties we're dealing with have a slightly larger under 18 population, averaging around 22%.

So, we take 49,583 and multiply that by .78

We get approx 38,674 people still of voting age.

Now, Maine is a closed caucus, so only registered republicans can vote (not sure about independents).

In the 3 counties were dealing with, republicans have a relatively strong base, with around 35% of the population registered.

So, if we do some more math, we get 13,536 registered republicans in the places still up to vote.

Turnout in Maine has been very low, with only 2-3% of registered republicans voting. If we take 2.5%, we get just under 338 people voting in the upcoming caucuses, meaning Paul would have to convincing win over Romney.

Alright.
I can't do anything directly as I live in Indiana --

But what about a last minute "Stop Romney" campaign?
Direct mail is discouraged by the campaign and we also don't have enough time. But I think we ought to appeal to the Santorum supporters however we can reach them. Tell them what they want to hear about how a Ron Paul victory is a victory for Santorum, that Romney is the only candidate standing in the way of Santorum winning, how they can bring Romney down, etc.

Santorum supporters believe that and I think they would be just as glad for a Paul victory over Romney as we were about Santorum beating Romney in the caucus states.

Should we swallow some pride and appease them by producing massive facebook and google ads, maybe even get some articles about how a Ron Paul winning Maine would help Santorum and pass those around to his supporters.

All at the same time targeting Ron Paul supporters with a very different message.

Would this be effective in any way? Or just a waste of resources?

I think you mean 0.78. I think we need to make sure that the younger voters actually show up to vote. First time voters can registered at the caucus, right? If so, we need a RP supporter/campaigner at each college location in areas yet to still vote, everyday until that area has voted.

I do not know if you can register to vote at the caucus - only register to a republican from Independent (democrat deadline has passed).
I'm not saying you can't, just saying I'm unsure.

On another thread someone mentioned 30 second ads being incredibly cheap to just run on local stations in these areas. We should organize on that level as well.

yes, youre right

ill recalculate

Updated, math.

We still need a strong turnout from our people.

BUT mathematically, win IS very possible

We could win, if they count the vote, which they will not.

The washington county GOP chairman said they were still going to hold the vote and still going to send the totals to Portland.

I guess if they get thrown out, it doesnt matter :(

I believe they would be sending them to Augusta?

Lets win this thing.
Is there anybody from that county on these forums? Do we have any contacts inside that county? what efforts are being done?

I'm the last person qualified to take the lead on any projects, I don't know hardly anything about Maine, this county, ways to effectively campaign, etc ... but if nobody steps up I'm not going to sit around and do nothing. I'll start putting up facebook ads if nothing else.

But we need to go all out.
Targeting Santorum supporters, GOTV, commercials, online ads, etc.

If somebody lives there, try convincing gingrich and santorum supporters to strike a blow to romney and vote for paul.

Anyone find the numbers to these caucus sites from 08? How many approximate votes are we talking about? Even if we were to pull off a greater vote, although it would be a good psychological boost to say we won the the beauty contest, this is about getting more delegates.

WE would count the vote, it isn't as if we didn't win Maine just because they don't say it. Ron can drop it in a debate or an interview if we do, for example.

OUR people if they dominate a caucus can make a motion to count the vote.
