So, after arguing with socialist morons, I've decided to do a bit of a research paper on what has brought the current situation about.

If anyone has any knowledge they wish to share to make my research easier on me, it would be appreciated. Sources are nice!

Be sure to include info about socialized medicine, government regulations on health care and medicine, Americans with disabilities act, FDA, medicare/medicaid, etc.

The current health care system is broken because of corporatism. Any health laws are passed in the favor of corporations. A pure socialized health care system would actually most likely be better than what we have now. However, what the democrats want is not a pure socialized system. They want a corporatism/socialism hybrid system where people are robbed via taxes to pay for their corporate health care which will most likely be forced on them whether they want it or not. They would be forced to have regular checkups, forced to take prescriptions, forced to follow whatever procedure the health corporations tell them to. It's really the worst possible combination I could imagine for health care.

Here's a good link for a lot of info written on health care by Ron Paul:

Socialism would not solve medicine, just like it didn't solve Social security, finance, or anything else. The cure for the crisis in the medical industry is the free market. Ban all government health organizations and allow the free market to solve the problem. (See "The Market For Liberty" by Tannehill)

I totally agree, socialism wouldn't solve medicine. I guess I didn't make myself clear enough on that. What we have now is a corporatism system in health care, which is probably about the worst, most corrupt thing you can have, especially when dealing with human lives and disease is viewed as a resource to make a profit on. Corporatism is devoid of morality. In fact, if a corporation was to make a decision based on morality and it costs them in profits, they can be in legal trouble from their shareholders.

People who want socialized medicine will often compare the broken system we currently have to socialized systems in other countries. They'll try to make a point that our "capitalist, free market" system is inferior to socialized health care. They don't understand that we no longer have a free market, or at least they never bring up that point. When we had free market health care, it was the best the world has ever known.

Free market health care is better than socialized health care. Socialism health care is better than corporatism health care. A combination of socialism and corporatism for health care like Democrats want would be an unbearable monster.

Some research on Medicare and mandates would yield good information. For example, doctors cannot give discounts for individuals paying in cash, they believe this would reflect overcharging Medicare patients. Plus, all of those bullshit forms you have to fill out are because of Medicare. Also, mention Singapore. Their health care is great and they spend way less on it than any socialized country.

Our health care system is a mess because gov't regulation has turned it into a reverse-capitalist system. In other words, instead of having a vested business interest in providing good service in order to increase profit, the healthcare providers in our nation (at every level, from the desk clerk at the ER to the CEO of the insurance company) have a vested business interest in finding ways to refuse to provide service or to provide as low-quality service as possible in order to increase profit.

Here are a few reasons why our health care system has become broken (hint: its the governments fault):

1. HMO Act of 1973 - This is the beginning of employer-provided health care benefits. Was meant to lower the cost of health care but did the opposite. You have no choice in coverage, you only have a plan when you are employed & you are only covered under certain doctors and in certain states or areas.

2. ERISA Act of 1974- This stated that employers can buy tax-deductible health care plans but a person on their own cannot buy a tax-deductible plan.

3. FDA- Takes about 15 years to take a drug from the chalkboard to the medicine cabinet. On average, it costs nearly a billion dollars for 1 drug to go through this process. And if any change is made, you start all over. Many drugs are lost in the R&D process so you can imagine how much money is spent by pharmaceutical companies. The FDA is suppose to protect us from harmful/useless drugs, but they dont. Drugs like Fen-phen, Vioxx, Vytorin, Zetia, Thalidomide, etc all make it past the FDAs trials but why? The FDA doesnt actually test the drugs, they "oversee" the pharmaceutical company & the company themselves conduct the trials. Also they will not allow the re-importation of FDA approved drugs. Thats right, drugs they approved of, that left the country, are not allowed back in.

4. the American Medical Association, AMA- Physicians have a strong lobby in congress and use that power to limit the number of physicians and other non-physician health care professionals. By keeping the physician supply low, medical costs & doctor salaries are inflated.

5.HSA/MSAs- Health Savings Accounts are a good thing. The problem is you are not allowed to have one. The only people eligible for HSAs are those with high-deductible insurance policies. All people should be eligible for HSAs. Its basically an IRA for health expenses. The money is not taxed and can only be used on medical expenses. If everyone had these, we'd be able to build up a "rainy day" fund and we would be able to afford any unforeseen medical expenses they we may come across.

I could go on all day but those are 5 big ones. The FDA itself I could go on all day about. As a member of the health care field, I have done some of my own research behind our health care woes. Its the governments fault....big surprise huh?

(Waiting for Truth Warrior to swoop in and provide a comprehensive and solid explanation of this question...)

The healthcare system is capable of expanding to be able to absorb every dollar thrown at it- without necessariliy providing any better treatments. More expensive drugs and treatments are not necessarily better than the cheaper ones. One of the most effective drugs with the least side effects is still plain old asprin. If you want to make it affordable to everybody you need a way to control its costs.
