Real Time appearance

Ack it takes me HOURS to download 7 minute you tube videos, so could someone give me a brief description of what is in the one listed above?

It's just Rudy saying "They hate us for our freedom of religion and freedom for women". And that's basically it.

Well, that's the worst explanation I've heard so far... they attacked us because they don't want their own people to have freedom of religion and freedom for women :o

Apparently you can't post comments on his videos (for obvious reasons), the only thing that I wanted to add was:
If they attacked us so we would lose our freedom, they have succeeded as we already lost half our freedom after 9/11 and we'll lose the other half with this ignorant idiot as president.
 
I was in the audience yesterday. They kind of suggested early on that Paul would appear via satellite. Very disappointing. Then, around 9:35, they ushered Ron Paul onto the stage. He had to wait about 10 minutes before they finally brought him on.

He seemed nervous, and I didn't think he delivered a very strong performance. Maher, Affleck, and O'Rourke seemed to kind of drift off. Note that in these kind of interviews, it's not common for the panel guests to interrupt, and I think after O'Rourke (who, by the way, is hilarious) interrupted the interview once, Maher got kind of antsy.

At the time, I didn't really appreciate the "Are you kidding me?" comment from the audience after Affleck said that Ron Paul doesn't have the support. The audience seemed a bit iffed at that, and I was wondering if that's something Ron Paul would've appreciated or not, but, I guess we're playing hardball here, and being able to show our support like that on HBO may be more important than making a couple of audience members uncomfortable.

Too bad I had to get out of there so quickly. Was hoping to check on the rally outside.

Nice meeting some of you out there! See you on June 12th (Pasadena meetup meet).

I think the audience really helped him out on this one. It showed that there are real humans (not internet bots) that support him and they're vocal about it. People tend to drift off when people are talking about serious matters so it's good to have some people cheering for him for the people with shorter attention spans.

I'd even go so far to say that the audience reaction has more of an impact sometimes. The second debate wouldn't have been an issue if it weren’t for the reaction after Rudy. If the audience cheered for Ron then the outcome would've been completely different I'm sure.

Thanks for sharing your experience there; I have to say that I'm a bit jealous

Give him the benefit of the doubt... he isn't used to all of this attention, I know I'd be lost for words myself. hmmm were you that guy screaming in the audience? I thought I heard something like.. "vote ron paul...vote ron paul" but I'm not sure. :D

There was a bunch of us screaming "President Paul".
 
I thought Ron Paul did a great job, all things considered. He had to fly across the country that day just to make it. He must have been very tired. Having such a supportive audience had a powerful effect, especially on a show devoted to the democratic party. I think Bill will have him on again. We need to get Ron on the Daily Show. Rumors are that he will be on. Any one heard more about this?

My perception, watching live, was that Maher and the panel was enthralled by what he was saying. I guess that's the influence of the media at work.
 
It is true, however, that Real Time is a very liberal show. I mean, Ben Affleck as a political analyst? I don't know how far that goes, but...... I certainly haven't ever heard him be outspoken against any pressing issues....

This was a great success against (we have to understand) a *tough* audience.
 
RP is TEACHING when he makes these appearances.

Americans are STARVING for someone to give them straight truth.

When they hear RP, they realize that "here is a man who is telling me the truth."

Even when they don't agree with his stand on an issue, one thing they know after hearing him speak: his positions are well reasoned and put THE COUNTRY first - not "party politics."

This is very different for Americans.

They'll adjust.

well.. Libertarians are classical liberals ;) You see, there aren't any mainstream Libertarian politicians, that's why everyone (from both sides) are so interested in him. He's different. Libertarianism represents the best aspects of both political parties!
 
My husband likens this movement to that of the hippies in the '70's. While they failed to actually immediately achieve their social goals, they had the seeds planted in their minds. As they grew older and started voting and running, many of those ideas came to fruition in some form.

Even of Ron Paul is only the grandfather of the new Conservative movement, it's a good thing.

Provided the war dogs don't get us all killed before then.

The original hippies were quite libertarian. A lot of them later helped form the Libertarian Party. But unfortunately, the hippie movement was coopted by the socialist left.

So was liberalism.. that's why classical liberalism differs from liberalism, for the same reason why conservatism differs from neo-conism
