Read this court ruling

There are going to be millions of hacked off people,

Google should appeal the order.

Ok. Please help me out with this...

Basically, youtube and google are now ordered to hand over the info of EVERY person (member) who has used youtube either to watch or upload movies so Viacom can sue us?

And it doesn't matter if you remove your vids now because they're going to keep a record of that too?

My understanding is that Viacom said it will not sue individuals. At least that is what they are saying now.

The judge has put heavy penalties in place on who views and what is disclosed. It has to be only an attorney that sees the material.

You are right the information will be turned over even if you remove.

The biggest problem is, it is opening pandora's box on future information requests.

Your privacy on searches becomes a bigger problem if the government now say's to google we want your records without a court order.

Another bad day for the internet and privacy.

This whole thing is just...disgusting. And you're right, it does open up pandora's box and the gov't will be able to use this ruling in the future (if its not overturned) for more privacy violations.

I mean, I understand a company being pissed off about their content being freely distributed without them getting paid, BUT, couldn't there have been another way to do this that didn't involve something on THIS level? Like...couldn't the judge have just ordered youtube to not allow videos copyrighted by Viacom and its holdings to be uploaded?

I am glad to hear they won't be suing individuals, or at least, that they say they won't. I haven't uploaded any TV episodes or anything like that, but I did make some fan-vids for a few movies that I like in order to get some practice working with Adobe Premiere...and yes, I uploaded them to youtube so I could show my friends.

Viacom is trying to get google to pay 1billion over this. One company with big pockets.

Hey, I have watched Mad TV videos like mad. Where will it stop, and who will go after them next is the question.

My question is, I pay monthly for internet service, to search and see what I want, what good is that if I am afraid to look at anything either because of this type of thing or worried the govt. will be after our records on searching?

I am all ready paying Al Gores internet tax, for his pet project, as well as state taxes and I resent the further intrusion on my privacy.

If they don't want their product to be on the internet put a no copy code on the source. They do that on DVD's now. I know the wizz kids will figure a way around it. bit that is what is causing all of us problems now.

I will say, that by seeing some of the you tubes, I have tuned into specific programs which also has made them money.

EXCELLENT point!
Sadly, I'm half way there (being afraid to look at anything online) already. :(

I work at a video rental store. This ruling is like if we printed out the entire rental histories (porn included) of our customers and handed them over to a third party. Its a total breach of trust and privacy.

Same here.
