Ok, heres my resoning:

The MSM has figures they can't release until the polls close. They take exit polls that can be fairly accurate, but don't release them until the polls close so they don't influence the election.

After a full week of hyping how important the NH primary is, and who is going to get the huge bounce going in to Super Tuesday, all of a sudden EVERY media outlet (literally within the last couple hours) is talking about nothing except how NH doesn't reflect the true voting pattern of America. They are all of a sudden stressing how many independents they have, and how no other state will vote like NH.

Combine that with the HUGE 70% turnout, and my senses are telling Paul is going to come in BIG. With a capital B. And they know it. The blackouts didn't work, the smearing didn't work. They are trying to cover their asses now, and marginalize the good Doctor before the news comes out.

Now I believe that a lot of the new voter turnout and and independents are going to benifit Obama, but on our side of the isle Dr. Paul is going to recieve some "pissed offf independent lovin" himself.

Thoughts?

Edited to add the text of a post I made in reply, that is burried here:

I'm trying to not get my hopes up also. I'm not necessarially predicting Paul is going to come in first or second, theres a HUGE marging between second and third right now, I'm suggesting more of a third place finish, but with a lot bigger margine than anyone thought over fourth.

I'll be happy with 4th, estatic with third place, and probably have to change my pants if anything else (after I'm done jumping up and down while cackeling like a mad man.

They were saying on CNN how a large majority of Republican voters in NH were anti-Bush.

I've spoken to about 60 people this past week about Ron Paul down here in the Maryland area... only had one lone person tell me they have heard of his name. Ouch...! From where this boots on the ground supporter stands it's gonna be a long long long challenge.

Just heard Ron Paul take talk show host Laura Ingram to the cleaners... wow he let loose...!

I hope you're right. But, uh... let's not give the liquor stores and morgues any business tonight. Please stop speculating. We'll know soon enough.

makes sense

That is my take on it as well - it makes sense.

All their monopolies are useless against us

I am NOT getting my hopes up. An Internet candidate scoring big could just as well be Obama. And since we know that the independents have been voting in the Democratic primary in droves, it is safe to assume that the surprise will be how badly Hillary has done, not how well Paul will do.

Okay, shoot me, why don't you? But I have to have very low expectations. Otherwise, my little spirit might be crushed. ;-)

Seriously, don't make predictions like that, people were saying the same thing with Iowa, look what happened there. You think 70% turnout guarantees Paul will kick ass? Don't forget that people like Obama too. Also, with the evangelicals energized after Iowa, don't overlook the possibility of a high turnout from them. As noted by another poster in the Iowa thread, the post caucus results were very close to what the polls were predicting.

In short, hope for third, don't be shocked with 4th or 5th.

I am cautiously optimistic. The people in the rallies lead me to believe it is true, but we had more support around than Huck in Iowa. But Iowa was a different type of voter. This could be great!

+1

I'll be watching the results here in Minnesota at pool league, which starts exactly when the polls close. Ugh!

There is a silent agreement between MSM outlets to not release any exit polls until the polls actually close because they don't want to be accused of discouraging voters from coming out to vote before the polls close. This was an issue a few presidential elections ago.

I want to believe... after Iowa though I am much more humble. lol.

Humble. That's the word I was searching for. Yeah, me too. I do NOT believe that we're going to have a night like IA, but I don't want to get my hopes up to an unreasonable expectation level.
