He was at 1% in Monmouth poll, all other polls 0% - like Gilmore in one Fox poll
 
I have a feeling that Trump's numbers are artificially inflated. I suspect they have polled anyone who breathes oxygen, but they have not polled people who actually plan to show up for caucuses. I have a feeling someone who works for Trump has said, "Sir, your numbers just aren't there," and Trump has decided to make a big deal about not debating in order to pump his people, if he really has any. He does not have the organization most other candidates have, and I think he knows this is the time to put up or shut up. Not debating is the best he can do, and if Fox is smart, they will say, "Okay, Trump isn't coming. Let's turn the page and move on."
 
So let's say Rand does finish top 3, even top 5, when the requirements for the next debate come out, do they take placing in Iowa in more consideration than polling in NH or SC? Especially since Rand's numbers aren't as good in those states as they are in Iowa.

I mean you have to assume they include Rand no matter what if he places top 3, but if he is 5th and above Bush and Christie, then I would also assume they would have to include him.

I'm not sure if there will be another undercard debate because at least 2 or 3 of them will drop out on Feb 2nd. Santorum and Huckabee are riding in to the caucus on fumes, and Iowa was their best state.

Also, the next debate is on Feb 6th, so that doesn't leave much time for new polls to make up the criteria.

But if by chance there are still two debates... yes, if Rand does well in Iowa he would be in the main debate.

IMO that's the most likely political scenario. Trump says a lot of inaccurate and embarrassing things during his rallies and rarely has to account for them later. I think he'll skip the debate too.
 
you all know trump is going to have a rally or something at the same time as the debate right? so all the trump supporters are going to not even be watching the debate

They said to be in the next debate you have to finish in the top 3 in the caucus or be in the top 6 in NH. Not sure which polls they will consider to determine the top 6 in NH.
 
Good news: if Kasich, Bush, Trump or Christie drop out before NH, Rand should be polling top 5 in NH no problem.
Bad news: Rubio will be polling NH in the high 20's.

His rally won't be televised.

Yea, the hardcore Trumpkins (those with opposable thumbs capable of manipulating a computer) will watch the livestream, but most will still watch the debate I'd wager.

I don't know if that's bad or not.

If Rand isn't winning, then having the votes get spread out among more people to keep just one or two from having an absolute majority of them will make the distance between Rand and first place smaller.

Rand Paul’s campaign is unloading on ABC News over new rules that would likely exclude him—and several other Republican candidates—from a crucial debate on the eve of the New Hampshire primary.

The network announced that its Feb. 6 debate in Manchester will be limited to candidates who poll in the top six nationally or in New Hampshire—but only the top three finishers in the Iowa caucuses. That approach would eliminate the undercard debate.

“It’s a little bit irresponsible,” Paul spokesman Sergio Gor said in an interview in Iowa, before the Fox News/Google debate Thursday night. “Voters should be the ones making these decisions and not network executives in New York.”

Gor said he is appealing to ABC and also pressing his case with the Republican National Committee, which oversees the debates.
