I don't know how many usually signs up for his petitions but 1 million sounds like a lot.

That interviewer was short & rushing acting like okay stop discussing that now talk about this, then that is enough about that what about this and so on.
 
I think he misspoke. He probably confused signups with page hits (amount of people that visited the page). When he was advertising it on twitter there was a tracker and the tracker had 161,000 last I checked, which is still very good. The petition no longer has a tracker so I'm not sure of the final tally.
 
I assume he can prove that. Given how often we question how much money candidates raise in a single day, I wonder if this is even valid.

Even if it is 161,000 that's 1/10 visiting the website and signing up. That's pretty good
