Rand to possibly make some kind of announcement Tuesday

Just not his year. Trump had 2 effects in the race- knocking out the true establishment candidates (Bush, Christie, Santorum, Graham) and taking the place of the anti-establishment candidates (Paul, Carson). Now we just have these middleground people, Cruz and Rubio.
Rand should be ready in 2020 after either a failed Clinton or Trump presidency.

There won't be an election, or at least a normal one in 2020.

John Kerry ran in 2004 and was NOT leading any state in 2008.
Santorum peaked very close to the caucus in 2012 and was no where near the top this early.
Shouldn't WaPo try to be more accurate?

So much promise!!! Rand Rand Rand. You should have run the 2010 Kentucky campaign all over again and you'd be much better shape today. First act as Senator in 2011 introducing legislation ending birthright citizenship.

The country is in rebellion and you just didn't see it.

In 2010, Rand was less like Trump than he is now. You wouldn't have liked him then.

Iowans are.....interesting...

Wants to send at least 20,000 troops to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria Agree: 61 Disagree: 28

Supports a single-payer health care plan instead of the current law Agree: 49 Disagree: 35

In other words Rands run a horrible campaign and needs say this to survive.

I WILL BOMB THE SHIT OUTTA THE MIDDLE EASTERN MUSLIMS!

I WILL SEND 250,000 TROOPS INTO IRAQ AND SYIA AND CRUSH THE SURVIVERS!

I WILL PROVIDE COMPLETELY FREE HEALTH CARE TO ALL AMERICANS!

I WILL KICK PUTIN'S ASS!

I WILL COLLECT NO TAXES FOR ANY OF THIS, I WILL BORROW IT NOW!

Yep Rand didn't run his campaign right, it was a perfect year for his ideas........

I would say YES to both. 50 days still to go. Rand will peak on February 1, count on it!

He just got ballot access in many states in the past few days! Rand's not going anywhere. He'll stay in this game. There will be a contested convention (not my words, but the GOP beltway's). He just needs to stay creative. Keep the MSM on their toes. He needs to feel comfortable and not get nervous trying to explain his positions, which are the best of any candidate running now! I know he's trying to make it easy for the sheeple to remember him. He just needs to be loud and proud while explaining his ideas. The public is emotional and it could play well for him if he does it! ;)

He needs to stay in at least until after Iowa and New Hampshire. Just stay in the game!!!

#1) There's always a chance voters are going to be looking for an alternative. Candidates surge out of nowhere all the time. And Donald Trump has the potential to collapse. Most voters aren't even paying attention yet:

#2) It's great experience for the future. Chances are, he's going to be doing this again some time in his life. These experiences gained now are invaluable.

#3) How can he go to sleep at night knowing that he quit before any votes were even tallied? Doesn't he have a strong desire to see this thing through to the end?

Yeah, there's no reason to stop now months before the first votes even take place.

If anything, the poll today showing Trump fall shows why it wouldn't make sense for any real candidate to quit now. Once Trump is securely displaced from the top and can't run on being a winner and the frontrunner by a "YUGE" margin, what will happen to him? Will he just fade away? Will he quit before Iowa to avoid an embarrassing loss? Will he decide to run 3rd party?

Will Cruz be able to hold a lead for this long, or will he also fall after being exposed to the spotlight?

The actions Rand's taken in the last few days, and even today, don't signal or hint at him quitting.

Not only would he not quit before Iowa, I think he will at least stay in through the Kentucky caucus on March 5th. And all of the other Western caucus states that they've been working on happen between those two.

As the graph above shows, the attention paid to the race and the debate frequency pick up after Iowa. In the period between Iowa & Super Tuesday on March 1st the field will shrink much smaller. There will be at least 3 debates in February. Who knows what the race will look like by then.

I think this is a case of either the campaign being tricky... or the media taking a comment that wasn't intended to hint at anything and making it in to a big story about him almost dropping out - as they have done before.

If Rand does drop out, then he can focus better on his senate campaign and eventually run for Kentucky Governor sometime in the future.

The Senate campaign he is essentially running unopposed and KY just elected Matt Bevin as Governor. Rand is focusing on the much tougher job of running for POTUS.

Fiorina and Christie benefitted from the undercard debate and they're still going at it. If Rand has a strong organization, he shouldn't focus on quitting. The ball is on Rand's court but I think this will make him stronger and bolder. :D

Such negative people here. Making a statement is a hint Rand is quitting? Wow, that's pretty negative. Maybe he is going to expose CNN and media for the biased manipulative arrogant people they are. It just seems that so many people here want Rand out of the race so they can piss and moan about something else. Very discouraging to hear this type of pissingon what is supposed to be a Rand Paul supporters site...that's what I find discouraging.

I can't believe we have anyone on here that would believe this. No he isn't dropping out. He's the master of trolling...he has one up his sleeve.

Right, we should know not to buy in to some media hyped headlines.

Along with the statement from the campaign explaining why they have a competitive first tier campaign... Cliff Maloney Jr just posted this on his Facebook:

February 1 is when the real voting begins. Keep your eye on Iowa. #Iowa10k

THIS! It's the boston globe, FFS!

Being in the kids table may be more beneficial for Rand is he is able to make headlines arguing with Lindsey Graham.

All but confirms that the blackmail is underway. Lolol.

Maybe so, but then you don't say anything regarding the status of your campaign. You don't make hints like that when people are gathering signatures to put him on the ballot or trying to recruit voters to caucus for him. The media is going to run with this tomorrow. It's publicity alright but the wrong kind.

At this point I would not want CNN calling my bluff at only 3 percent in the polls in Iowa, because they'll say buh-bye. Hell, hopefully they'll take Rand because it will be a more interesting debate with him there than without him on the stage. But it's clear the campaign is damned concerned about it because I strongly doubt he will be at the kiddie table debate.

Rand should come out on Tuesday and announce he's fired his whole entire God damned staff.

I absolutely am behind Rand and think he's a formidable candidate still. Unfortunately, like you, I cannot get over his campaign staff. I try my best not to express it here, but it's very frustrating for me. In regards to your suggestion... I concur. I'd love to see Rand get some fire under his belly and replace Chip and some others. I think nothing would say Rand is back in contention than the press surrounding such a move. Just like McCain did in 2008 that ultimately paid huge dividends and took him to nomination.

Chip would be great for a Congressional race, but I feel he is in way over his head. Sorry, in advance, for my slight toward them. :D

Blackmail my arse. What's Rand's going to do, hold his breath until he turns blue? He can scream and pout all he wants but it's CNN's debate, their criteria. No different than it would be if Fox was running the show. They'll basically tell him "buh-bye" and his "reaction" will mean nothing to them. It's not like a lot of other Republicans will come to his defense or give up their podiums so Rand can be there.

Actually the only polling that matters are the one's the campaigns do for themselves. If their polling and organization sounding is saying Iowa is winnable, they'll stay in. If not, well, he's going to get a lot of pressure now from his Senate colleagues (including old Mitch) to get out.
