Rand pulled out too early

He has two primary opponents. The primary is in May. The youth vote (that Bernie seems to have captured) was the only group he had left. All the time he has spent over the last year away from the state has left Kentuckians with a bad taste in their mouth. He would have had to spend all his free time up until the Primary outside of the state. He would not have made the debate in NH. The coalition that he had would have made more sense in the general or if he had an independent canidacy.
Bernie is the new Ron Paul. Rand keeps the liberty narrative going best in the Senate.

Rand Paul can stand on his head until November and win reelection in a walk. That's a non-argument.

He would have made the NH debate. He could've waited 36 hours to find out for sure.

Rand has the next six years to keep the narrative going in the Senate. He could've also kept it alive nationally for another week.

He quit on the liberty movement, and that trust won't easily be regained.

I was surprised and disappointed that Rand dropped out, but I don't think it's right for us to assume we know what went into his decision. All we can do is speculate, which I don't think is helpful.

There is also a high likelihood they were telling him back channel that he wasn't going to be in the debate. Without the debate and even maybe with it, he would not be fighting Cruz, Bush, Rubio for 3rd, he would be fighting Christie for 6th, 5th or 6th in SC, 3rd or 4th in NV, and no 1st place states on March 1.

I think he would've looked much better if they announced he wasn't in the debate. He would've been a victim and that in itself would've opened more eyes.

Where he would finish doesn't matter at all to me. He was never gonna win this year. You can't win today if the media ignores you, and anyone paying attention knew going in that the media would largely ignore Rand.

What matters to me is 13+ million sets of ears hearing a libertarian message. Seizing opportunities like that is how you accelerate changing the culture, and a change in the culture (credit Ron and Rand seizing previous opportunities) is why you have other Republican candidates expressing hesitation for interfering in foreign conflicts and for locking up drug users.
