Peter King and John Bolton are speaking at this. Looks like the audience might not be as friendly as they hoped. :)

This weekend the Northeast Region of the Republican National Committee held the Northeast Republican Leadership Conference. During the conference, one of the first straw polls of the NH 2016 Primary season was held.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) narrowly beat Governor Chris Christy (R-NJ) by two percentage points, 15%-13%. The interesting thing is the straw poll was not announced prior to the event, that means Paul didn't stack the room.

There was a three way tie for third place between former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), Dr. Ben Carson (R-MD), and Governor Scott Walker (R-WI).

Rounding out the field were:

Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA) - 9%
Fmr. Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) - 8%
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)
Amb. John Bolton
Paul Ryan.

Had I known there was a poll I would have gone and brought people with me. :/
I was considering it but the lineup of speakers was just aweful.

I'm impressed Rand squeaked out a win

If Rand can win a straw poll of the sorts of people who voluntarily attend an event featuring Peter King and John Bolton as keynote speakers, he's doing an even better job than I give him credit for. I'm sure Jen Rubin is breathing into a paper bag even as we speak.

Go Rand, go!

I'm impressed he beat Christie in the Northeast.

There were 20 candidates. The conference was stacked with neocon speakers, designed to draw neocons. However, it was in New Hampshire where the average establishment Republican isn't a neocon.

The speaker before Peter King was a liberty Republican from New Hampshire who helped get the best education tax credit system in the state past a couple years ago, according to Cato.

The Maine GOP Chair introduced Peter King. Amusingly, before King spoke, about 8 people left the room. Not 1 American's call has been listened to by the NSA, according to Peter King. The FBI does it but only if someone is talking to an overseas terrorist, according to King. 3 the the 4 people that asked King questions were basically explaining how they disagree with him with their questions. Pretty epic.

How did he look, was he pretty agitated?

Here is a photo of the results as they were being announced.

The Other is the 10% the other 10 candidates got combined. Several of the candidates spoke at the Conference but no dice for them.

This helps relieve some concerns I had regarding recent events/polls. Usually during these events, liberty grassroots folks are on top of it and make sure to have a good showing, which could possibly give us an unrealistic and biased view on who the average Republican/Rep primary voters are favoring at the moment. But that wouldn't have been possible at this one, so the fact that Rand won is huge to me. Does Christie being the close second mean that Rand won amongst the moderate (non Tea Party) faction here?

Rand Paul Wins NRLC Presidential Survey

http://www.wparesearch.com/uncategorized/sen-rand-paul-wins-nrlc2014-presidential-survey/

NASHUA, NH – WPA Opinion Research (@WPAResearch) announced today that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has won this weekend’s Northeast Republican Leadership (@NLRC2014) Presidential Survey capturing almost 15% of the vote.

“What this survey tells is that is that no one candidate has really separated themselves from the potential field in 2016,” said Ryan Steusloff Vice President of WPA Opinion Research. “At this point, the nomination is completely up-for-grabs and of the would-be contenders, no one can be ruled out just yet.”

Full Results:

1. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) – 15%
2. Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) – 13%
3. Dr. Ben Carson – 11%
3. Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) – 11%
3. Fmr. Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) – 11%
6. Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-LA) – 9%
7. Fmr. Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) – 8%
8. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) – 4%
9. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) – 3%
10. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) – 3%
10. Fmr. Amb. John Bolton – 3%

Im concerned about who is in the second slot as they are more likely to be pumped up by the MSM.

All I care about is the sheep here the name Rand Paul and the words Front Runner. That is all they care about. They will cheer at everything he says, even if he says something they disagree with. It is all about winning to them.

Did Rand speak at this event?

No. There were 20 candidates on the ballot (in typical New Hampshire Primary style). While several of the candidates did speak, Rand Paul did not. He was invited but he couldn't make it. However, there is a free event by Americans for Prosperity next month in New Hampshire that will have over twice as many folks. The speakers include the 3 least bad US Senators and many more. I don't know if there will be a straw poll, but I'll be at that event too.

This is the RINO event. Steve King, Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are going to the Koch event.

I was told that Rand Paul was invited but couldn't make it. I know at least 3 of the speakers at this event were liberty Republicans that live in New Hampshire. There were also some conservative Republicans from NH and a moderate Republican from MA. But yes, I completely agree that all of the big named speakers were either RINOs or close. And honestly, that just makes the fact that Rand Paul won look all the better ;)

No. In fact, I even spoke with a libertarian guy and he voted for Scott Walker. He said that based on the recent history of Presidents that governors make better governors than senators and he thought the next president should be a former or current governor. He didn't like Christie because Christie is anti-gun. With 20 candidates in the poll and the voters being from some many states, it is really hard to take much from this other than it was a little surprising that Rand Paul actually won it (especially with the major speakers for the event).
