U.S. Senator Rand Paul Warns of Eugenics Policy in Anti-Abortion Remarks

By PHILLIP M. BAILEY
MON OCTOBER 28, 2013

Campaigning for Republican Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli on Monday, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky warned that abortion could be used to create a new U.S. eugenics policy.

The recent remarks continue a theme in Paul's pro-life speeches, which often argue the Roe v. Wade decision paves the way to eliminate certain populations.

From AP:

During a visit to the Christian school founded by Jerry Falwell, Paul looked to energize conservative supporters by warning that people who are short, overweight or less intelligent could be eliminated through abortion.

"In your lifetime, much of your potential — or lack thereof — can be known simply by swabbing the inside of your cheek," Paul said to a packed sporting arena on Liberty's campus. "Are we prepared to select out the imperfect among us?"

As The Associated Press notes, some states sterilized patients in the early 20th Century, but that practice was abandoned by the 1970s.

This isn't the first time Paul has spoken about the possibility of human selection and breeding in regards to a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy.

Speaking at a Right to Life event in Owensboro, Ky. earlier this month, Paul compared abortion to the sci-fi film "Gattaca" and spoke about a possible "one-child" law in the U.S.

Rand is getting really beaten up today on the liberal blogs for being "anti-science." But I think this is a misinterpretation. I don't think Rand is "anti-science." He is against having the government use advanced technology to the detriment of the citizens. Rand could cite as a good example how the NSA has run amok with advanced technology and used it to harm civil liberties and anger other nations. Rand certainly is a headline grabber.

A physician who made it through Duke Medical school and has published research is "anti-science" I've heard it all...

Rand is 100% correct. He should never back down as this is a winning issue. I never heard any liberal elites talking about their past and continued involvement in eugenics. California forcefully sterilized many prisoners this year and only Chris hays reported on it.

Exactly!!! I was actually in an argument not long ago with a liberal and they started saying Rand is against science, I responded "how can a doctor be against science" liberal then replied blunlblenljlneljujel

Yep. Is soooo much more than a winning "issue " though. So then backing down doesn't equate to establishing a very important and very broad position on certain things in one swoop for folks who pay attention to that sort of thing. He can essentially cook a few birds with the same flame. Looks to be as well. Which is good for him. I, for one, can accept it being placed into political terms of controversy as is.

Sigh. Rand, Rand, Rand. What to do with you....you clever, clever fellow.
