Sen. Paul joining Obama on trip to Kentucky
By Sam Youngman - 09/21/11 05:20 PM ET

President Obama has an unlikely guest scheduled to join him on Air Force One on Thursday — Tea Party darling Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

Paul will be joining Obama on the trip to Northern Kentucky, where the president will likely continue his assault on Republicans in Congress over the American Jobs Act, an aide to Paul said.

Obama and Paul will be visiting a bridge that connects Cincinnati with Northern Kentucky that has been described as "functionally obsolete." Obama will continue to highlight what he says is the need for infrastructure spending contained in his jobs plan.

While it is not unusual for members of the opposition to join a president aboard the presidential plane on trips to their home states, the duo of Paul and Obama at a time of Washington gridlock is sure to raise some eyebrows.

I'm just waiting for the comparisons to Kucinich's infamous plane ride with The Messiah.

Rand talked about this during his interview with Cavuto today, he wants to discuss with Obama a bill he proposed that would fund the repair of a bridge in Kentucky.

Obama's answer "that bridge is already in my paid for infrastructure bill. you just need to agree with raising taxes. otherwise, with out my bill that bridge is going to fall apart."

Dude, if Rand Paul can talk to Obama on the flight I wish they were flying to Israel or somewhere so they can have a more lengthy discussion..

It's a trap! They're gonna put a Mickey Finn in his mint julep, drop him off at Gitmo, and send out a highly-trained and well-rehearsed doppelganger to Washington. Don't do it, Rand!

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me...otherthan to give Paul some publicity...the idea that Paul is asking to funding is not good....my two cents.

Rand isn't asking for funding, he is proposing that we end foreign aid to pay for emergency infrastructure repair, as I understand it.

Basically, yes. He only wants to fund it by cutting elsewhere. The foreign aid cuts he proposed were in regards to funding FEMA though, and it failed in the senate 20-78 last week. Here is exactly what he will be proposing to Obama tomorrow:

"I am looking forward to speaking with the President in my home state to address the express need for attention to our nation's critical infrastructure needs. I will present him with my plan to prioritize these projects by freeing up funding to fix our broken roads and bridges, for which America's businesses and commerce is so dependent," Sen. Paul said.

The bill will create an emergency bridge fund. Money for this fund will come from funds previously set aside for unnecessary projects like turtle tunnels, squirrel sanctuaries, movie theaters and flower beds. It will also direct the Highway Funds Administrator to develop a national priority list for bridge and road repair emergencies and disburse the money based on the urgency of the project.

Hopefully Ron Paul will address this at the upcoming debate.

Rand needs to address something a little more urgent than a damn bridge in Kentucky, are you f'ing kidding me?

He's got a one-on-one with the President in an isolated environment and he wants to talk about a bridge. FACEPALMS.

How about the wars?
How about the Federal Reserve?
How about the inflation tax?
How about the media censorship of his father?
How about the disease of Collectivism that is ruining our countries society?
How about the Police who kick our doors down no different than the soldiers do in Iraq?
How about the TSA?

Should I go on? Or have I already made my point pretty clear.

One bridge has already been shut down on a major interstate spanning the Ohio River. So I take that bridges that keep commerce flowing that is shut down due to their condition is not urgent?

Do you think the president even cares about talking to Rand about the issues you brought up? Get real dude. It would be different if POTUS actually cared about those issues. I swear people are idiots on here. Remember he is a Senator from KENTUCKY. It's not one bridge, it's actually about every bridge that spans the Ohio River that needs to be replaced. As Ricky would say. F-
off Mr. Lahey.

Rand is putting Obama into a corner:

'Sir, if you really want to fix the bridges, then drop these other useless pet projects and put the money into bridges instead'.

Calm down.

I am sure he will do his best.
