Repealing Obamacare Could Be Trump's First Lesson in the Glacial Pace of Congress

...

Republicans will first have to overcome a revolt from Senator Rand Paul on unrelated budget issues, with the Kentucky Republican saying Tuesday in an interview he would oppose the budget resolution because it adds significantly to the deficit.

"It never gets to balance. Not in 10 years, not in 100 years, not in 1,000," Paul said.

"Every Republican that was here voted for a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution that said it should balance in five years, but yet they are putting together a budget that never balances," he said. Paul added he isn’t swayed by the argument that the numbers don’t matter and are merely a way to fast-track the Obamacare repeal bill.

Indeed, the resolution sees the deficit rising nearly every year before hitting north of $1 trillion in 2026 alone, with the national debt hitting $29 trillion that year.

Time to separate the men from the boys on this forum... (no offense, ladies).

This move by Rand is PRINCIPLED and HONORABLE. I FULLY SUPPORT his stand to push for a balanced budget.

The Trumphumpers will pounce on Rand for this and I think this should be put front and center to debate... This site should SUPPORT RAND in this action and not take any shit from the Trumpsters

Most republican congress member would be fine repealing the ACA, then handing insurance companies a couple hundred billion dollar bailout in a few months. Rand is right; free market health insurance can work.

It's a lot to take in in a single glance but may help make the argument.

New year just begun and Rand is already off before the gun fires, all of the DC staff must be jealous of how pro-active, passionate and intellectual Rand's libertarian staff must be.

Mike Lee, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio wrote a letter to McConnell saying they support repealing Obamacare but oppose the numbers in the budget. All three voted to proceed with debate on the budget.

Second, we seek your commitment to passing a fiscal year 2018 budget resolution that sets our new, unified Republican federal government on a path to balance in 10 years without the use of budgetary gimmicks or tax increases. Our votes in favor of the “Obamacare Repeal Resolution” do not indicate in any way our support for the revenue, spending, and deficit numbers therein, nor for the use of those numbers as the basis for future federal budgets.
