Rand Paul: Ted Cruz Can’t Get Anything Done Legislatively

How quickly before Cruz or someone else points out that Rand hasn't had any bills passed, either?

Exactly. I mean, what are Paul's greatest claims to fame in the Senate, if not standing for long periods of time and getting the praise of Twitter handles that know how to retweet a hashtag?

That's not what Rand is talking about.

Many of Rand's sponsored bills have at least been voted on even if they didn't pass.

Cruz' bills aren't even getting a chance for a roll-call vote because of the way he treats people.

rule xix of the senate

2. No Senator in debate shall, directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator.

He killed the PATRIOT Act.

That's a big part of why he can win the general election.

Does Rand Paul have any idea how badly comments like these -that Cruz shouldn't name call McConnell- hurt him?

They reported them at HotAir with the title, 'Rand Paul hits Cruz: He can’t get anything done legislatively because of his name-calling in the Senate', and the commenters are just trashing Rand.

It's also astonishing how clueless some of Rand's supporters are, promoting these comments which are just going to hurt Rand, like latinsforpaul who created this thread.

you're the only one worried about what people on "hotair" think.

This isnt about flip flopping around. This is about principle. Principle is, you dont say derogatory comments about other sitting senators. Period.

Is what it is. Dont like it? Build a bridge and get over it.

It's representative of a lot of conservative sites and voters. You can go to others and the comments will be identical.

Your strategy of not caring about gaining votes does not win elections.

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” -John Quincy Adams

I'm for not changing just to vote grab.

Seriously though too...whats the opposite of what Rand said?

"yes its ok to break the rules of the senate"
"yes its ok to not build relationships and get nothing done"

? Thats better?

Rand hurt himself with this one sadly. Maybe one slightly good comment for Rand there.

No he didnt.

or do you think a bunch of cruz supporters are reflective of a good sample of the majority?

fact is, thinkers are making correct comments such as

Regardless, he is right. You can’t sit and call people liars and attack them then expect them to support your legislation. I don’t like GOP but got to have someone that do something besides shut down the government.

or

I like Rand Paul and I think out of all the candidates HE is the one who would follow the constitution as it was written. He is what a candidate should be — FOR the people. I dare anyone to think of any thing that Rand Paul has done for his OWN benefit……
I like Ted Cruz too — but he does have a tendency to rub the fur the wrong way —
Politics is a blood sport — and you need thick skin to play. But you ALSO need to make friends in the “Good ol’ boy” world of politics…… (Just ask Jimmy Stewart) ….. heh heh….
-
Those who say “Rand Paul talks too much” would be those same people that might say “Rand Paul should have said something” —
Ted Cruz did just that too – he tried to get a bill read — and NOBODY — not even one Republican “seconded” his movement — – - which means that nobody — no body — wanted to hear his proposal.
I would RATHER have people that were willing to stir things up like Ted – but you also need the other half of that and that is the RELATIONSHIPS that are needed in Washington.

my comment on that blaze article on fb:

Further, Rule XIX, section 2 of the senate rules:

2. No Senator in debate shall, directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator.

Ted broke them. Is what it is. You all can like what he said about Mitch, and it was true, but Ted AGREED to follow the rules and he DIDNT. That makes him a LIAR....just like McConnell

It amazes me that peoples reactions are so easily pushed the direction the media wants. He did not attack Cruz, He was asked a question about why Cruz was not given roll call by other Republicans and he answered it. What people should be outraged about is the media trying to stir up contention when there is none.

So you agree that one should not name call people in Congress, but it's ok to name call people out of Congress?

Let me answer by quoting your response from another thread.

I see your IQ isn't high enough even to post on the topic of the thread.

My opinion on name calling of people outside of Congress has no bearing on the subject of this thread. As Rand said in the quote, it's about decorum.

The bigger picture is that Cruz has positioned himself in such a manner that he will never be able to accomplish anything, and I'm not talking legislatively. He has burned all his bridges. He is not a candidate who, as President, would be able to bring people together for a common cause. Good luck getting other branches of government to work with you when you have no allies. How is Cruz going to win a general when he's so polarizing? That is an important consideration for the nomination process.

Then why spend time defending that position? You're embarrassed of your own views? And it's not off topic. That's the criticism that Rand made of Cruz and that is costing him his reputation, whatever is left of it, among conservatives.

agreed. but cruzstumpers cant see past the end of their nose.

I had one today on twitter tell me Rand sided with the democrats and voted to keep funding planned parenthood. WHAT?!

If people are worried over Rand telling the truth on the subject over Cruz voting for $400 billion in deficit spending last week....then thats their problem, not Rands.

And if that causes his reputation to drop among so called "conservatives" then so be it. I'd rather he stand on principle.
