Rand Paul sounding different than Dad

1. He's pro-life.
2. He's not running on "bring all the troops home right now," but on "let's shift the pendulum away from being everywhere all the time, be more judicious about war, recognize and cut excess in the military budget, and always force an official declaration."

I like it.

Hannity doesn't want to admit he's a moderate, so any time anybody takes a position that's to the right of him, he discards it as "libertarian not conservative." He pulls that with Ron all the time. I'm glad Rand isn't taking it.

He is taking a different approach. A Federalist rather than Libertarian approach. We need to realize that these two things are compatible at the Federal Level.

Sincerely,

Slutter McGee

Rand takes more of a Glenn Beck approach to foreign policy: No nation building, no policing the world, get out of the U.N., cut military expenditures, and gradually withdraw troops. Ron Paul, on the other hand, would like all of those things + immediate troop withdrawal.

Umm....so is his dad. And that's not and anti libertarian stance. You may already no that, I'm just reiterating that for emphasis. If you accept that at some point in pregnancy a fetus becomes an individual the protecting life simply becomes a matter of protecting individual liberty. That doesn't mean a woman doesn't have control over her own body any more than saying a dad can't molest his daughter means he doesn't have control over his own family.

That's correct. And the key point is He's running. His dad has long had his district locked up and never really thought he had a shot at the presidency.

LOL... What on earth is wrong with sending troops "abroad" if they are being sent to protect the US?

Did anybody hear him say that occupying Iraq or Afghanistan is helping protect the US? What about South Korea?

Bueller?

Bueller???

Buelller??

Fact: Rand Paul isn't nearly as good as Ron Paul.

Fact: Rand Paul is better than anyone in the Senate.

Fact: It is good that Rand Paul is distancing himself from libertarians, because winning an election is the worst thing that could possibly happen to a libertarian who isn't Ron Paul.

Rand is running for U.S. Senate in Kentucky, he can't afford to appear controversial. I have faith that, once in office, his voting record will show a strong belief in liberty and the Constitution. I doubt Rand's Senate voting record will differ substantially from Ron Paul's record in the House. He has to be more discreet in his views, but I support him because deep down I know where Rand Paul really stands on the issues.

Ron Paul ran exactly the same type of campaign in 1996. But it was below the radar unless you saw his TV commercials. If you got his fundraisning letters out of state, then you'd think he was a Libertarian/gold advocate.

The unrealistic ideologues of our movement seem to think much like the radical left.

Both groups mistakenly believe that a libertarian will wave a magic wand and we'll have no troops abroad, no government welfare programs, etc.

The reality is that Ron, Rand, nor any other freedom fighter is going to accomplish anything drastic

Let's focus on short-term goals in the short-term.

That's how the socialists managed to take over our country - if they had proposed universal healthcare, social security, welfare, etc. on day one, they would have failed. They got their plans implemented by patience

We need similar patience whether it be with rolling back gov't welfare programs or reducing our presence abroad

The U.S. Senate candidate from Kentucky told syndicated conservative talk show host Sean Hannity that he doesn't fit the mold of a Libertarian. Paul said his conservative social views and willingness to send troops abroad to protect the U.S. set him apart from the party some have tried to associate him with.

not true. yet again he is not being quoted. that may be how someone thought of it but he never said he was not libertarian.

now he is talking in a way we should ALL embrace. it is the truth of how we have to cut back. no way we can just get rid of SS. we have to phase it out. anyone who as paid into the system should get a return.

one of the main rights is to have the government make sure someone holds up their end of a contract. this is of the most importance.

What is this big deal about labels? I mean if someone asks about libertarian beliefs, I feel libertarian enough that I think I have an answer to offer, but if people start saying 'you aren't really libertarian unless you believe [whatever]', I just say 'fine, then I'm not.'

i agree. but people need to know how many terrible things the "progressives" did and are now continuing. They can also be called Wilsonian

I give Rand 4 liberty-stars out of 5, he is very good on most things but he is no Ron Paul. He has much to learn from his dad still, if there was no Ron Paul I am pretty sure Rand wouldn't have inspired me much at all. Either he doesn't have the balls to stick to his principles like his dad, or his understanding of those principles is not deep enough yet, still - he is good on most issues.
