Rand Paul slips to #2 in Chris Cillizza presidential power rankings, Jeb Bush from #9 to #1

Signs are so 2014. By next year we will be having projectors and Rand holograms.

Not a bad idea. I could see Rand using something like that on Super Tuesday or the day prior to it - the same hologram speech of him broadcast in a major city in each of those states.

There are a lot of dumb members of FreeRepublic and HotAir who are going to be just shocked when Cruz inevitably doesn't become the GOP's 2016 presidential nominee.

Probably the same people who swore up-and-down that Palin was going to be the nominee in 2012.

also from the Washington Post today, the editorial board takes a slap at the "openly isolationist" Rand Paul.

If the president focuses on the costs of the U.S. global role, so will ordinary Americans. To be sure, an openly isolationist Republican, Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), seems intent on exploiting that tendency all the way to the White House in 2016. Of more concern, in the here and now, is President Obama’s inconsistent defense of American leadership — which too frequently takes the form of accusing critics of favoring war over diplomacy or, as he repeated in Manila last week, of advertising this country’s weariness of “a decade of war at enormous costs to our troops and to our budget.”

Wait, I thought Palin was the 2012 nominee...Did I miss a news cycle?

A line from paragraph 3:
The horrible devastation of World War II might have been avoided or at least mitigated if the United States had assumed a greater global role prior to 1941. Conversely, the world as we know it today is a product of the long-term security investments of the post-1945 era.
Obviously the author is not a conservative, cause he'd have to be on some kind of drugs to think the world is peachy keen right now!

I get, understand and sympathize with everyone's frustration - and if it turns out to be a Bush/Hillary matchup I absolutely support the sign/hologram/dynasty suggestions!

But ... their assessments as quoted in the OP aren't all that off. I pay more attention to Rand than anyone else, so maybe I'm not the best person to say this, but, he is by far doing more than anyone to increase his popularity and recognition.
Jeb, in the public eye, isn't doing anything. (the media is doing it for him).

Yet, Jeb is coming up in the polls considerably.
Rand is holding steady but at the cost of tirelessly campaigning while no one else, seemingly, is. Meaning his competition is at bare minimum and he is only narrowly number 1.

Rand is working his butt off compared to other candidates. I hope he doesn't fade in popularity when other candidates start working their butts off as well.

BUT!..
Rand is, for the moment, the non-Bush option. That in and of itself is a huge success.
The fact they said he'd be in the final two I think is a positive thing.

And by "positive thing" I mean electorally ... I'm an election kinda guy.
If there had been a consistent non-Romney candidate in 2012 they (the non-romney) would have gotten the nomination.

The majority of GOP voters don't like the establishment's pick. But they split their vote while the establishment stays unified ... so they lose and the establishment wins. If there is a candidate that appeals the majority of the GOP and he gains their support soon enough he will be the establishment candidate. Rand is just that, at the moment.

Think big! We need to get busy with this technology stuff.

Maybe Cruz will run for pres and repeat 2012 to help Bush get the nomination. The GOP is always looking to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

fucking set up guys! same thing as the 08/12 elections. remember how ron was #1 in dec before iowa? then in a week or less santorum skyrockets from nothing to main guy according to the media liars. same old shit here. remember when ron was surging forward in 07 and mccain was invisible? they even called ron "the maverick" for about a week. then mccain skyrockets out of the blue. yeah right!!

i can already pick out the first talking point bullshit right off the bat. they say if bush runs he comes "in as the front runner"....really? sort of like perry did? just out of the blue he is leading when just a day before no one knew about him??

we can see the lies now before we even finish reading the damn sentence. fuck you msm. round 897. you will lose again.

yes we do for established members picked by the owner or mods by request from member. sure itll be slow, but we need to be fucking sure whos in the loop with this stuff.
We really need an underground forum ;)

So Jeb would obviously be the de facto frontrunner? Really? Because every republican you meet thinks the best way to win the white house is to run George W. Bush's brother? Really?? How can the average person read this and believe it?

Well, did you say this when Rand was #1?

I said nothing about that.

What I am saying is that I'm seeing history repeat itself. After a few weeks of the MSM saying Jeb is the front runner, people will believe it. In reality, no one likes Jeb. This was the same with McCain in 2007-08 and Romney in 2011-12.

In a little while the sheeple will repeat the mantra , "Paul is good but he has no chance. Jeb is the only one who can beat Hillary. And Brawndo Gots electrolytes and stuff."

It's not true that the other candidates aren't campaigning. Just last month there was an article about how Corrupt Corpulence has managed to get a couple of his inner circle people into high profile positions in New Hampshire, including Executive Director of the state Republican party. Ted Cruz has made at least 4 trips to Iowa over the last 9 months and there was an article a little while back about Cruz meeting with some of the same big donors that Rand was meeting with. Huckabee was in both New Hampshire and Iowa last month, and it was because of his behavior this year that pollsters have suddenly started including him. Paul Ryan has visited both New Hampshire and Iowa this year.

I haven't heard much about Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, or Jeb Bush. But, Jeb Bush doesn't have to do anything right now. He has access to a massive national donor list. And that's why he would be considered the instant frontrunner, should he enter the race.

Most of the other candidates are campaigning just as hard as Rand. Rand has just done it in a more high profile way.
