Rand Paul slams Chris Christie on Sandy ads

So I get that the video was inspirational but ... what was its other purpose? Why would relief dollars go to this supposedly? There wasn't any info given in the video that made it worthy of broadcasting.

Yeah, I know it was used to boost Christie. I'm just wondering what the official "what they want you to believe" story is?

To let people know that they have recovered in that area and it's open for business. It's basically a stimulus for the businesses hit by Sandy.

For reals? That's pretty cool! Do you have any links of him saying this?

I think it was during an LPAC or YAL (or similar) forum, along with Cruz, Mike Lee, and someone else. There's a thread on it here somewhere with video. Rand said he "trolls" RPF.

eta: Wait, Im confusing Amash's "trolls" RPF comment here with a comment Rand made. I specifically remember Rand saying he visists here but it wasn't the "troll" comment. That was Amash.

Amash trolls RPF:

Not sure what to search for to find Rand's comment about it. Regardless, you can bet this forum is visited by politicians and staffers.

Fed auditors to examine use of Sandy Relief funds, bidding process

1/13/14
Washington (CNN) -- Just days after dismissing two top advisers for their roles in the George Washington Bridge scandal, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is facing questions over the use of Superstorm Sandy relief funds.

CNN has learned that federal officials are investigating whether Christie improperly used those relief funds to produce tourism ads that starred him and his family...

... In an August letter, Pallone asked the Department of Housing and Urban Development inspector general to look into how Christie chose to spend the marketing money approved by the department...

... Pallone wrote that he was concerned about the bidding process for the firm awarded the marketing plan; the winning firm is charging the state about $2 million more than the next lowest bidder. The winning $4.7 million bid featured Christie and his family in the advertisements while the losing $2.5 million proposal did not feature the Christies.

On Sunday, Pallone told CNN that the inspector general conducted a preliminary review of the spending and concluded that there was enough evidence to launch a full-scale investigation into the state's use of federal funds. The audit will take several months, and the findings will be issued in an official report, he said.

I live in Connecticut and I remember those TV ads with that annoying "Stronger than the storm" jingle. (No, NJ, you are stronger than this song!) You couldn't watch anything on TV without one of those ads happening practically every commercial break. I do remember it striking me as odd that Christie himself was in all those ads and they seemed just like a tv spot for a campaign. I don't see how this could possibly be an appropriate use of sandy funds. Imagine if the federal government had funded national ads about *anything* before the 2012 election, with Obama himself in the ads. The GOP would have been livid. I think this thing could damage Christie even more than the bridge scandal. And yes, Rand is a genius ^^
