“I would think we’d give to a lot of countries that don’t have good records on gay rights,” Paul told me. “I mean, any Muslim country probably has an abysmal record. Obviously, I’m not a big fan of most aid to begin with, so would I tie aid to behavior? Absolutely. For example, I introduced an amendment in the foreign relations committee to not give aid to countries that will put people to death for changing your religion in interfaith marriage. I’d be happy to say, for countries that punish you for homosexuality, too. Do any of them put people to death for that in Muslim countries? I’d be happy to say no.”

We shouldn't be giving aid to any country.

I don't know where you got that quote from but it isn't found anywhere in the linked article. Also, couldn't find an article on bloomberg discussing this either.

The best part about it is its anti-PUTIN and anti-ISIS. So anyone who comes at Rand over this is automatically Pro-Putin and Pro-Isis.

And over-all its anti-foreign aid.

Ok, Randal how about we cut off countries that guarantee govt subsidized abortions such as a little unnamed country in the middle east?

This was a good move.

It is?

Sticking up for gay rights would win brownie points with liberals for the general election, not that liberals would ever vote for a republican. But they can't vote in the republican party.

It will alienate evangelicals which are critical to getting the snowball of support rolling in the primaries. Evangelicals don't like gays.

Sounds like Rand is tap dancing on his genitals while wearing golf shoes.

Remember Rand is talking about people being not just persecuted, but executed for being gay.

You don't have to "like" gays to side with Rand on this.

He has been in Washington too long if he thinks this is what is important to Republican primary voters.

I know the goal is to cut aid but there has to be a better way.

There is a segment of the GOP that legit believes the USA is being punished for tolerating sodomites. Dunno how big they are, but they about won Iowa last time.

Oh Snap! Someone on this forum coming out in support of there being more Jews in the world. That's Brave.

Argh, there is no actual way to argue against this. Evangelicals do not favor torturing and killing homosexuals in foreign countries.

It's a red meat issue (foreign aid) expressed in a way that neither hardcore republicans nor democrats could ever take an issue with.

This is smart politics.

I've been harping on this point here for years and you'd find the vast majority in agreement with me. if Randal can argue tying foreign aid to "gay rights" he can certainly argue the same for the rights of the unborn. And no Republican that argues to defund planned parenthood can seriously argue against it.
