Rand Paul on Vouchers

Ron Paul opposes Federal vouchers. If the government pays then that means they will have a mandate to control the private schools.

Also it will just be more spending.

I don't think Rand said he supports Federal Vouchers.

Rand came out and supported a voucher system. What does everyone think about this?
My thoughts is that we should all vehemently oppose vouchers. It would then give the government an opportunity to get involved in private schools. Once they start paying for private schools the bureaucrats would then take it that they can control them because they are providing the funding for them. When has the government just given away money (that they stole) and then didnt later come back and try to attach some strings.

Good points, and I'll add a couple of more.

The voucher system is only another form of state welfare. It's a tool that teaches dependence upon the state, moving groups of educators: private school administrators and teachers, from one class of citizen: tax payers, to a whole new class of citizen: tax eaters. And tax eaters always demand more gov't - it's inevitable, just like death.

And what of the parents? Again, they're left dependent upon the state for a crumb, only demanding those crumbs be made bigger with each succeeding election.

Government loans going to students attending private universities has been nothing but a complete disaster. Tuition prices have skyrocketed, causing loan amounts to increase, and ultimately creating a never ending cycle of artificial price increases and debt to the banksters.

And of course many people are going to end up defaulting on their $120,000 loan after they realize their aren't many good jobs in whatever worthless field they studied in college. And then we will have another round of bailouts.

I know some of you are purists and I agree take away Government loans and abolish the Dept. of Education BUT, till then how about we get vouchers passed which will help students have a choice and freedom to choose where they go to school instead of the federal government telling them. If it's the law for kids to be educated then we need to allow them choice.

I think some good points were brought up here; especially about what has similarly been done in the college arena with government loans. I believe vouchers are basically a government loan (with the benefit of no repayment) but with the added kicker of bringing up tuition's in all schools. Schiff has been going on about how loans drove up the price of colleges, why wouldnt the same happen in grade schools? But one plan that i believe everyone could agree with (as an interim measure of course) is to make all tuition payments to schools completely tax deductible (that way you are taking no one elses money to fund your childs education).
