Maybe, that's to be determined. Remember Romney wasn't exactly a favorite among Republicans yet he easily won because he was most electable. McCain was also viewed as a moderate/maverick/independent. I do think all this stuff is good early in the campaign because it helps build up a case of electability then he can focus on more Republican/Conservative issues like spending/taxes/2nd amendment closer to the primaries/debates.
The difference is that the establishment liked Romney and McCain and filled the airwaves with positive commentary about them. FOX News pushed the narrative a lot. The GOPe hates Rand, so his only chance at winning the nomination is to get overwhelming grassroots support from conservative and libertarian voters. If I were Rand, I wouldn't spend a minute more dealing with the issue of electability. It's time to go hard after the right-wing vote.
