What a dufus. Even if he believed that crap, how can an act passed in 1973 give "constitutional authority" for a war fought in the 1950s? (The Korean war).
Exactly. But you know, if you hold up a pocket-sized Constitution in front of a bunch of people you can make it say anything you want.... Johnson took a shot at Rand calling himself a "constitutional conservative" and then refered to the WPA of 1973 essentially as part of the Constitution. ????
Previously, however, he had said that he (Johnson) would eliminate Dept of Education and IRS.... I guess using his same reasoning we should point out that because of the Department of Education Organization Act of 1979 and the Revenue Act of 1862 both of these are "Constitutional" ???? Uhhh yeah right. Baffling.
Naturally, both Grayson and Johnson had much love for the Patriot Act. Rand made a great point about how we should follow the law by referencing the 4th amendment and how important that was to the Founders. He offered bit of a reminder about the events leading up to the American Revolution and the reason that was added to our Constitution, but he didn't have to hold up a pocket-sized Constitution in doing so... It was one of the best moments of the debate I think.
