We can all sit here disappointed, or we can look at this thing with perspective. We have a lot of work to do in explaining our principles to others. And Rand has a lot of work to do too, as he is the greatest Senator to exist at least in my lifetime. He will not be elected President in 2016. It will not happen. If he wants to stay in, it is purely to make his arguments and there is a lot to say for that. We all have to continue building. Realize that we ran into the perfectly awful storm this year, with Trump and Cruz both sucking the air out of all the soft votes that we had to get to win.

Look back to the debates. There were a ton of hugely idiotic statements, but on the whole, our issues are more popular than they ever have been and they will continue to become even more popular. Remember this too; WE ARE RIGHT. WE ARE FUCKINGRIGHT ABOUT THIS COUNTRY, AND HOW TO MAKE IT GREAT AGAIN. That is a tremendous advantage.

I want to thank everyone who worked hard for Rand. While Im sure he wont have a chance to read this, I want to thank Rand Paul for what is a herculean effort. It is the hardest thing in the world being right, and alone, and wondering what on earth everyone is thinking. But nothing is more worthwhile than being the guy standing against the tide of power and shouting NO!

What good is being right, in your own mind, when you've nothing to show for it other than just claiming that you're right and everyone who thinks otherwise is wrong? To pat yourself on the back?

LOL - People hat freedom and will actively fight against you to obtain it.

Centralize that fact and get used to it and plan accordingly.

I agree. Fuck the naysayers who contributed nothing. I don't regret one penny I gave Rand. Rand ran a great campaign under awful circumstances. Trump/Cruz, ISIS, and the overall idiocracy in this country are to blame.

On the plus side, soon I'll be able to tune out of politics and live my life again. Focus on your friends and families, and be ready for whatever comes.

No one better try to obtain mine.

the 2 Democrats could inconclusively squabble and quarrel all the way to Pennsylvania.
i'm hoping against hope that Rand decides to hang in there and be at more debates!!!!

A fucking hero indeed. If 2016 is really done I hope he'll be back for 2020 so I can do better for him. All praise to Rand!!

The optimist who does not act because he knows things will be fine in the end causes the same amount of change as the pessimist who does not act because he know his efforts will be in vain.

By acting, we win. By fighting, against all odds, we win. Each of us has to be willing to dedicate his or her life to the Liberty movement. It is our duty to make sure our friends and loved ones embrace all tenants of Liberty -- we've got to lead by example so that all around us achieve as much as they can, that they live happy lives, pursuing virtue and excellence, being as productive as possible as often as possible, like Ron said in the Thanksgiving Forum during his 2012 run.

It is not a matter of patting yourself on the back, or belittling others for not achieving what you believed they should have achieved. We've got to rise above it -- this is not an effort that ends in Iowa. This effort spans our entire lives.

hear hear

We learned two things this cycle:

1. Not every cycle is winnable. Events outside of our control (ISIS) can have a massive effect on the process. We have to be willing to roll the dice and lose, sometimes.

2. Most of Ron's support did not come from libertarians. It was mostly vague contrarians of different flavors who jumped ship for shinier objects this time. Apart from trying to be shinier in future, we need to build up a genuine hardcore libertarian cadre. We need to know who's with us and who's against us. The former will never be an election-winning number, but it can be large enough to herd together an election winning number. The first thing is to purge and separate ourselves from false "libertarian" hangers-on, such as certain fucks who shall not be named at the moment in the interest of avoiding an argument (and I don't mean people on this forum, I mean major influential people "in" the movement). To be continued.

I've come to view my hope in Rand Paul winning this election to be a fool's hope, not because of him or his campaign, but more so because of the state of this country, which is still in the throws of misguided imperialism and worship of authority for its own sake. Nevertheless, a fool's hope is better than the alternative at this juncture, and I still plan to hit the streets of my neighborhood to try and get Rand the necessary signatures to get on the ballot in Pennsylvania.

Oh, and this still doesn't end with this upcoming election, if there is still a contingent of actual liberty folks out there willing to spread the message and seek out state and nation wide office, this will continue on for the foreseeable future. It's time to put up or shut up.

he is not a hero. Rand is a coward.Rand Paul basically brushed off the protesters in Oregon, and believes that rights only come through political rhetoric...and round and round you go. Someone has to put themselves on the line somewhere...to hold a line of freedom, and Rand isn't willing to speak about that line. Instead, Rand would avoid that because it would destroy his career.

Yea, Rand is the coward. The guy who is actually trying to accomplish some change in the right direction by putting himself out there for 20 hours a day and living in that hell hole that is Washington DC is the coward. By far the best Senator we've had in a generation is the coward. Right.

Are you sure the coward isn't the one sitting behind the keyboard doing absolutely nothing?

Yes, it's not over. In truth, it's barely started.

It's taken a century (or two or three, depending on your perspective), to get to this miserable point.

...And it's going to take a long time to get back to sanity.

As long as actual libertarians (as opposed to the fair weather friends, scammers, and click-whores) stick together and keep building, there's hope.

Uhuh, because that was SO mature of those select few in Oregon to sit on such a destructive arsenal and put innocent people at risk... Actually going through the proper motions with reason and logic is so cowardly..

The problem is you are a nutjob and Rand is not. If he is appealing to you, that means he is losing support among people with fully functioning brains. And it definitely means he would have no chance of ever winning.

Outside of the very first debate, I have few disappointments with how Rand's campaign was run. Rand spoke coherently an explained things in a way that should have been simple for the average American to understand. I truly think if Rand said "I will utterly obliterate ISIS" as Ted-ishly as possible, he could quite possibly be where Cruz is right now. He, of course, would not have my support nor the support of most of the anti-war crowd. It was a single-issue kind of election cycle, and that issue was ISIS. Somehow, when the national debt is 19 trillion, the debt and the deficit is a back-burner type issue.

Rand couldn't have run a Trump-like campaign (even if that could have been more successful) because that's not him or his style, and he's got too much integrity to change who he is just to get votes.

He's just one individual that's fighting for liberty!

I admire him a lot and no amount of polls or low votecounts can change that.

Maybe he will be more formidable in a later run? He's still reasonably young. Maybe someone else will inspire the movement and run in 2020? Time will tell.

The oligopoly that runs everything hates freedom and they tell people what to think.

It's not that the people hate it. People just try to make their lives work. They can change attitudes like putting on new clothes. Having political attitudes similar to their friends works for them. And the oligopoly media tells those groups what to think. If the oligopoly media started pushing for liberty, the people would love it, they'd buy right in. If you get praised by your peers for complaining about racism, you're going to get more complaining about racism, if you get praised for being racist, you'll get more racism. This doesn't apply to everybody, but generally, that's how it works.

For a supposedly smart person (and you typically are), your "people are stupid, people this, people that" analysis is just flat wrong, people's opinions are manufactured by the oligopoly. If you don't get that, you haven't been paying attention to Ron Paul.

The oligopoly who runs everything, not stupid people. The world is controlled by bad guys. The bad guys don't want Rand to win. So they do a whole bunch of things that make it difficult for Rand to win. The problem is that oligopoly. These elections are rigged, not necessarily with diabold machines, but more in the "Black THIS Out" kind of ways.

ISIS isn't real. It's fake, it was set up by the US and Israel. If there's no threat, candidates who don't want to spend money fighting have an advantage. ISIS is not some sort of thing that just happened. ISIS is an oligopoly creation, a false flag terrorist / mercenary group. Funded by the US, trained by the US, using US weaponry.

One thing, slightly OT from where this discussion seems to be going: NH is in less than two weeks. And everyone but Rand is fighting to differentiate themselves from the pack. He can just speak truth. Show some love to the Rand Paul people working the phones in NH. Educate those around you. I'm disappointed with the numbers in Iowa, but there are 49 more states out there.
I wish I could be more encouraging to those of us really floored by the Iowa results. Never give up. Remember when the Texas delegation started chanting to seat the Maine delegation as they were asked to leave the GOP convention? That opened a lot of eyes about party corruption. If Ron had bowed out early, that would never have happened. Sorry for the ramble. Peace to you all.
