Rand Paul interview w/ Jonathan Karl of ABC News, 11/19/12

Ah... See, I won't fall so easily into that trap as I don't subscribe to that particular tenet of Libertarianism. Call me ultra-nationalistic if you wish, but I firmly believe in borders.

I was just asking in general. and I havent seen Rand's plan yet, I doubt he is going to "make it easy".

When it comes to truly victimless crimes, then yes, there is no reason a person should be penalized for that. Case in point, drug users, or hell even that lady that drove around the bus everyday. But the first time she hit someone, or someone's property doing that, she should be penalized to the full extent of the law as she was well aware of the danger in her actions.

When it comes to immigration, I have no problem whatsoever in people from other countries that truly want to become US citizens having a way to do so. We do not have a system anywhere near that right now. Right now, we have people from all over the world realizing that if they can just get here, then they are set. Free schooling/healthcare/food and cash benefits/etc.... This does not entice the type of people that will be proud of their adopted country, it entices the exact opposite. This is why we have entire regions in some states that don't speak a word of english, and are openly hostile to those not of their ethnic groups.

So, take away all the free stuff, 100% of it. See how many of these folks stick around to work their butts off to get their citizenship.

As a general rule, politicians and celebrities avoid standing next to someone who is taller then themselves for pictures or videos.

I don't think he has a choice here...

Well, the camera angle is kinda jarring. I've seen interviews done this way before, but I don't like the whole walking format. There was one were Rand was interviewed on a moving train, but at least they were both sitting down, so it was less distracting.

Rand was good as usual though.

Yeah, that walking format was distracting and not complimentary. A subtle point that would be lost on most people, except for the "experts" who are shooting the video.

The pandering to the hispanic demographic just turns my stomach. WHY do we HAVE to make it easy for law breakers to 'get legal'? The only way I would agree with a path to citizenship for the illegals already here is if ALL free shit is stopped. You want to be a citizen of the US so bad? Well, then you can have your path to citizenship (which you trampled over others that decided to play by the rules), you'll just have to do it without financing it with my taxdollars.

Have you ever dealt with imigration? Making it "easier" will make it slightly easier then what it currently is: impossible.

We've known people and have dealt with it personaly so 2 stories:

1. My wife works with a very well connected very inteligent business man who came from Britan. It has taken him 10 years and 10s of thousands of dollars to become a citizen. Keep in mind he actually married a woman here but they wanted to do it all by the book and legally make him a citizen. Ask him if he'd ever do it again? Hell no
2. We had an intern come from Germany to work with my wife for the summer. It took 6 months, $1000 from us for a "site interview" (which ironicially was conducted by phone). $2500 from her to get her a 6 month (if I recall correctly J6) visa to work without pay to complete part of her university requirments over in Germany. Ask if I'd ever do it again? Hell No

I dislike that people are jumping the fence from Mexico just as much as the next guy but if we make a system that doesn't allow them to come and their family is starving? Put yourself in their shoes. I'd jump the fence and not think twice about it. We were ready to have Anna (the intern) do the same thing. Fly to Mexico and go pick her up. It would have been easier and significantly less costly on her and our end.

I'll vote for him as long as the mainstream media and neocons don't get behind him.

Which means you'll never vote for anyone ever again that has a chance at being president. The mainstream media will always be involved. Now the neocons thats a different story.

Rand could've said, I will work on reforming immigration for all people interested in becoming americans... not saying "oh, we are not throwing hispanics under the bus and we want to do things for their votes!" Seems like a bit of pandering based on race.

Although, I wouldn't condemn Rand unless I know the specifics of his immigration plan.

Well, that wouldn't be impossible, just expensive. And as far as you doing it too, well all I know is that if illegals worked as hard at changing the politics of their own countries as they do in getting here illegally, then they may not have to do so in the first place.

The liberty crowd is a small section of the American citizenry, yet here we are busting our asses to make real change for the better. Why cant they? Why do we have to work even harder just so someone that doesn't care to put forth the effort can take advantage of the fruits of our labor?

Problem is... we NEED the illegal workforce. Take away the $10/hour, no benefits workers, and then hear the giant sucking sound of what remains of American business (other than professionals with degrees - aka service industries) going wherever the cheap labor is. Who's going to do it if the illegal workforce goes away - poor Americans? Not likely. When you can get free food and shelter, why work?

Labor-intensive American business writes immigration policy, and they won't let 'em get away. Not any time soon.

What? You only want people that agree with you politically to jump the fence? As far as the work toward liberty? We're doing what we're doing because its the right thing to do. We beleive in a better future for our children and theirs. It what "activists" do.

I don't want anyone 'jumping the fence'. I'd rather they do as we're doing here, and work toward making their own country a better place. Either that, or I'd have them apply for citizenship the correct way and wait it out if that's what they really want to do.

Fix monetary policy, end the FED, and wipe out about a bazillion pages of needless legislation and you'd find that $10/hr job actually pays pretty darn good.

Milton Friedman used to say that it's not illegal immigration which is problematic - it's legal immigration (and only because of the welfare state).

So we starve the children of the parents who can't find work, we take away from the elderly, and sick, but do NOT touch the rich! How is that a compromise?

I cannot believe I was one of you for awhile. Perhaps someday you will see that bad times can come to the best of us. Then you will be thankful for a country that cares.

hope it's a "political" decision to not emphasize spending cuts (and i hate hearing anyone in DC mention "revenue")

"Caring" does not involve tossing the disadvantaged off to federal bureaucrats. The great "caring" bureaucracy is the cause of this economic bubble. Nice try.
