Rand Paul Interview on Marijuana, Gay Marriage, and Cliven Bundy

Another problem is the fact that you assume I'm some culturally social justice liberal who watches TV broadcasts that you despise. Another assumption is that you think because I understand word connotations and how they affect people, I must be a product of the modern day education. It's hilarious because you guys are the same cry babies that complain about Ron being called an isolationist. Wah Wah Wah what difference does it make?

As one of the "cry babies" who complained about Ron Paul being called an "isolationist," I find it more than a little amusing that YOU are the one who is hypocritically bitching & moaning about "basic connotations" while childishly pouting "wah wah wah what difference does it make" ...

Vanguard is correct that this association will probably hurt Rand a little bit politically, but Vanguard fails to admit it is because people are sort of retarded.

I mean, what kind of person would Cliven Bundy be if he called a Custodian a Janitor, or a physically disabled person handicapped? What about calling a Personal Assistant or Clerical Staff a Secretary? Can you imagine if he met with Rand and asked him a question then?? lol...

People change these names because the term describes somebody who is lower on the totem poll than others and so people end up using the term in a derogatory way. The truth is that in 20 years Custodians will probably want a different name - perhaps Disinfectant Engineer. Physically disabled people will probably want to be called something different in the future. People feel bad for these people lower on the totem poll and they accommodate them by using the new terminology. It's not very rational, it's not a longterm solution to the problem. But people do it. It's accepted.

I don't think Bundy is racist at all - he probably shouldn't have made the statement that black people have problems because "they never learned to pick cotton", but I'm pretty sure the way he meant that was not that they should be enslaved but as a metaphor for being more productive. He felt there are at least elements of their life that were better off with stronger families and being productive compared to what they have today where they are locked into the system which is a result of big government and entitlement programs. Communities full of people on welfare suffer economically because there is little to no production and it just becomes a huge negative feedback loop that completely guts them of the ability to be economically viable.

However, most people think Bundy is racist. I've done a lot to convince people otherwise, I was waist deep in the stuff over at Politico. But Rand, for political purposes is probably best to distance himself from the situation a bit.

Like, totally dude.
Starting a sentence with "like" shows your youth and inexperience.
i hope the 80 yr olds don't hold that against you.

You are obviously vehemot in your view regarding the words "colored" and "negro".
i recommend that you contact the following groups immeadeatly and share your thoughts with them.

NAACP - National Association for the Advancement of Colored Persons
UNCF - United Negro College Fund

Try not to be so angry,
Basically, you're like totally harshing my buzz.

LIBERTY NOW!

Maybe because "colored" was a label used to segregate (eg. "colored" restroom), but "of color" was not?

I guess the NAACP (what does the C stand for?) must be a segregationist outfit...

...and don't even get me started on the United Negro College Fund!

Anathema!

This is politics. Truth is irrelevant. Only perception matters. If you want to say "to hell with perception, tell the truth!" That's fine, but don't make any plans on electing a President.

That's the fact of the matter.

This (battling with the PC-police over Cliven Bundy's choice of language) is not a hill to die on.
