Rand Paul: 'I will force the expiration' of the PATRIOT Act

What I don't get is why Wyden, Lee, etc all support the USA Freedom Act. Rand should convince them and the other liberals to sink it.

I think every democrat supported it right? They gotta support their guy in the whitehouse or else they will get kicked out of the tribe.

Rand Paul vows to end NSA's bulk collection of phone call data

The Los Angeles Times said:
Pushing the government toward a shutdown of its bulk collection of surveillance data, Republican Sen. Rand Paul all but promised to tie the Senate in procedural knots Sunday during a special session to keep the National Security Agency system running past an end-of-the-weekend deadline.

Paul, who has made ending the program a centerpiece of his presidential campaign, announced his intentions Saturday, defying party leaders and a broad coalition of lawmakers who prefer reforming the program.

"There has to be another way," Paul said in a statement. "So tomorrow, I will force the expiration of the NSA illegal spy program. I am ready and willing to start the debate on how we fight terrorism without giving up our liberty."

The program's authorization expires at midnight Sunday, but the NSA has already said its complicated shutdown will get underway hours earlier as the Senate convenes Sunday afternoon for a rare session that cuts short its Memorial Day recess week.

What are the odds that when Rand walks to his car today, it will have 4 flat tires.

1. PATRIOT Act expires
2. Rand Paul receives the credit/blame.
3. Rand Paul goes on to become a serious threat to win the GOP nomination.
4. Powers-that-be stage false flag terrorist attack.
5. Say the PATRIOT Act would have prevented it.
6. Rand Paul's candidacy is over.

You forgot 1b: Rand Paul is responsible for a 2% increase in unemployment due to NSA layoffs.

Nobody is going to threaten his family. This is all just a political show. The illegal spying will continue as usual. Paul is not preventing anything from happening no matter what happens to the Patriot Act.

Defeatism is strong in this one.

You forgot 1b: Rand Paul is responsible for a 2% increase in unemployment due to NSA layoffs.

This is actually a serious problem in a country where close to 50% of the work force is employed by the government(directly or indirectly) Btw, has Rand started growing balls ?

There needs to be partying in the streets the moment it expires, to show them what Americans think of this. How about a mass celebration in front of the White House like what happened the night Obama announced the killing of Osama Bin Laden?

And posts like this is why that our candidates sometimes have a hard time being taken seriously

Indeed, I think some folks need to exercise their so-called "right to privacy" by keeping their crazy locked up at home.

Can we stop these ad hominem attacks ? What is so abhorrent in this comment you feel you need to to attack even if you do not feel obliged to provide any counter arguments ? This is almost as bad as MSM tactics against Rand.

Seriously? And that cartoonish foolish video that is being spread throughout the Internet is how one gets the public to take a candidate "seriously"?

I'm an eternal optimist but even The Judge just spoke something about the spying continuing by other means:
Privacy advocates looking forward to an end of the Unites States government’s mass surveillance program due to the looming sunset of PATRIOT Act section 215 may do well to shelve their Champagne bottles. Judge Andrew Napolitano, in a Fox News interview on Wednesday, presented his grim assessment that the US National Security Agency (NSA) snooping would continue even absent the section 215 authority.

Napolitano, a Ron Paul Institute Advisory Board member, says in the interview that the US government is lying to the American people with the claim that the mass surveillance would be suspended upon the expiration of the PATRIOT Act provision used to justify the mass surveillance program. Instead, Napolitano explains the snooping will continue reliant on two other legal justifications. Napolitano states:

There are two other provisions in the law that the NSA relies on which will cause it to continue to spy on Americans even if section 215 of the PATRIOT Act does expire. One of those is a section of the FISA law called section 702, and one of them is a still-existing executive order signed by President George W. Bush in the fall or 2001, which has not been tinkered with, interfered with, or rescinded.

However, there's a vested interest by the NSA and their lapdogs to keep the portrayal going that their powers were changed and this perception by the public is part of the gravitas that Rand can get out of this.

Indeed, I think some folks need to exercise their so-called "right to privacy" by keeping their crazy locked up at home.

And will you decide for us who is crazy and who isn't? Oh wise one. Maybe you and Matt Collins could set up a council to decide for the rest of us on who should be locked up at home.

If Paul forces it to expire, and the intelligence agencies continue anyway, then they are operating blatantly outside the law. That undermines any credibility they have, and could potentially open them up to all sorts of criminal and Congressional investigations which has the potential to land some of them in jail.

Yeah because they never operate blatantly outside of the law.
