The only problem? It's not true. CNN checked it out, and The Washington Post even said the claim deserves four Pinocchios for being so bogus.

The attacks center around photos from 2013. A representative from the Free Syrian Army, who organized the meeting with McCain, called the claims ridiculous, and identified all the people in the pictures as members of the northern storm battalion of the secular Free Syrian Army, a general, a media representative, and a guard.

He noted that the Free Syrian Army is a bitter enemy of ISIS.

Must have been McCain that caused the confusion... ;)

McCain, an Arizona Republican, went on the attack on Sean Hannity's Fox show on Monday night after Paul criticized President Barack Obama's request to arm Syrian rebels.

"Has Rand Paul ever been to Syria? Has he ever met with ISIS? Has he ever met with any of these people?" McCain said Monday. "I know these people. I'm in contact with them all the time, and he is not."

"Has Rand Paul ever been to Syria? Has he ever met with ISIS? Has he ever met with any of these people? No, no, no," McCain said on Fox News.

Appearing on Fox News’ “Hannity” Monday night, the Arizona Republican senator went off on Rand Paul after host Sean Hannity brought up the Kentucky Republican senator’s concern that providing weapons to Syrian rebels will only end up benefiting ISIS.

“Has Rand Paul ever been to Syria? Has he ever met with ISIS?” McCain fumed

$500m to Islamic fundamentalists. I really do not care who they are fighting against, I do not want any penny going to them.

(CNN) – As the Senate prepares to vote on whether to arm Syrian rebels, Republican senator and potential 2016 presidential candidate Rand Paul gave an impassioned speech on the Senate floor.

Note that they don't include a quote from Rand accusing McCain of meeting with ISIS. The assumption would be that he made this accusation during today's speech.

Here is what Rand actually said today:

Rand Paul said:

No mention of ISIS at all in that quote.

And yes, the Northern Storm brigade that was pictured with McCain has been involved in kidnapping and hostage taking.

Here are three stories:

Activists continue to work to secure the release of nine Lebanese Shia kidnapped in Syria eight months ago.
...
After a fruitless eight months, the families of nine Lebanese Shia pilgrims kidnapped by an armed group affiliated with the Free Syrian Army are fed up with the lack of action, and are taking matters into their own hands.

The kidnappers - part of a group known as the Azaz Northern Storm Brigade, which controls most of the Aleppo region along the Turkish border

John McCain Cuddles Up to Syrian Kidnappers

Never one to shy away from the camera, the Senator posed with rebel fighters in front of their headquarters, smiling as gun-toting jihadists smiled back. Did he know whom he was posing for pictures with? More importantly – did he even care?

What followed was a lesson in the perils of war propaganda. Because, as it turned out, two of the rebels in the photo have been positively identified as the 2012 kidnappers. What’s a warmongering US Senator to do? Answer: push back.

The original headline over the Buzzfeed story read: “McCain Didn’t Realize He Was Posing With Rebel Kidnappers” – but not for long. After a few hours on the site, the headline – magically – changed to: “McCain Wasn’t Posing With Rebel Kidnappers, Spokesman Says.” How’s that for spin?

Here is Mr. Nour, speaking to a Time reporter, boasting about how his group killed defecting Syrian army soldiers. The video also features an interview with one of Northern Storm’s fighters, a former teacher who proudly claims he also went to fight the Americans in Iraq. They are, the reporter says, “self-proclaimed jihadists.”

A United States Senator and self-proclaimed “freedom fighter” stands beside self-proclaimed jihadists who boast about how many Americans they killed in Iraq. Does it get any more bizarre than that? Welcome to Bizarro World, where up is down, Islamist fanatics are fighters for “democracy,” and a prominent public figure argues we ought to give arms to people who not only want to kill Americans but have already killed a number of them.

So, calling it a hoax . . . is . . . well . . . A HOAX. Who is foolin' who ?

Foolin' . . .

The media doing its job to cover McCain who's getting spooked by Rand Paul.

I'm hope and pray that Paul strikes McCain back, especially after the crap about him doing "somersaults" during the ISIS beheadings.

I trust Paul will do it in a way that is tactically sound. If he does, I'll be one happy camper.

According to McCain this was photoshped!
On the fox news interview sounds like he was getting desperate.

You can run, for a while... But you cannot hide.
Time is up, this time he's too deep into this.
Let him dig is hole as deep as he wants, when it's deep enough he'll find out.
