One is the CEO of Google and the other is a heavyweight investor, so Rand's Senatorial stock skyrockets to those in the audience or those hearing or reading about this. This is a major play for Silicon Valley and Rand has been taking the leading role w/ his standing up for privacy. Furthermore, VF typically leans towards a female audience and if you read the coverage from their link, you can see the recap article is written w/ very little substance yet puts him in a positive light. Interestingly, this is usually how the MSM covers the likes of Hillary or Prez Ebola.

FWIW, I saw Eric Schmidt on Cavuto a few weeks back. Cavuto asked Schmidt about Rand Paul and Schmidt shot the idea of supporting Rand down pretty hard. He didn't say anything negative about Rand but said there was zero chance of his supporting him, even after Cavuto pressed him on it.

I see in another article that Doerr hosted a Democratic fundraiser later that same evening featuring Bill Clinton, while Rand apparently went to a Republican fundraiser hosted by Larry Ellison, featuring Rand.
