Bush 18, Walker 18, Paul 12, Christie 11, Carson 7, Cruz 5, Rubio 4, Huckabee 3, Jindal 2, Perry 2

An interest thing on the cross tabs: he's not too low with women voters as he has been in some polls, however Walker's gender gap is quite extreme.

Fav / unfav with Republicans for Rand: 47 / 17
Compare to Bush: 61 / 16
Compare to Walker: 55 / 3
Compare to Christie: 37 / 41

Honestly, the media is talking Rand into irrelevancy.... he needs to shake the earth again. It may have to wait until the first debate. TO win the nomination he will need to either:
1. Unequivocally demonstrate himself as the #1 Conservative alternative for the base vs. Jeb. Show Scott Walker, Rubio, Canada Ted, etc. to be lightweights and unable to go deep into the primaries with Jeb. Win the right-wing traditional base.
2. Put up a Ron Paul-eqsue libertarian performance that will inspire every Reddit-reading, pot-smoking college kid in the country to register Republican and vote in the primaries. There is still a large and growing libertarian base that will come out if Rand goes back to his roots.

He'll get a big bump in the polls in a few weeks if he decides to run.

Well it sounds like you took this poll to be a bad thing, but not me. I'm surprised he's doing so well in liberal CT. #2 on your list won't happen by the way. Sites like Reddit hate Ron now too. It's a different time. In 2008 the internet seemed to change from libertarian to liberal.

Eh, I'm not counting on it being as big of a bump as we'd like... the media is still quite busy felicitating Jeb Bush and Scott Walker, and they will do their very best to play up Rand's announcement as "oh as if we didn't see this coming".... basically say that he's already been de-facto running for a year and it's "no big deal" and "he can't win anyway".

Hopefully he has a damn interesting tax plan to unveil. As I said before he needs to shake the earth somehow and regain his status as the most important/Visible conservative alternative to Jeb

I'm surprised Rand broke double digits here in my home state! CT doesn't matter though, the primary doesn't happen until April-something, well after the nominee has been decided. It's a positive sign though I think for the area as a whole that Rand is doing okay here.
