from reviewing 'For Liberty' Ron had his 'debate moment' with Guiliani in May, so that was the first quarter when that began to be reflected in his numbers. Slate indicated that the money came in late and the campaign suddenly tried to ramp up for the Iowa straw poll, but without a ground game. It seems like it is a different world, this time, in that sense.

Gage, can I use your numbers above?

Why is that a huge disappointment from that perspective? If we raise 4.3 million this quarter it's 81% more than Q2 2007, so we should expect Q4 2011 to have a similar trend.

DANG...McCain in 2008 came in TENTH???

To be honest, many of us expected him to fade out after his fundraising fizzled. However, note that he raised a lot in early 2007. This reflects the reality that money invested EARLY will achieve results... I'm really encouraged by the campaign they're putting together this time.

That would be the hope. Perhaps that is how people donate, more people get involved closer to the elections. I just thought that our base of support was much larger now then it was then. Which led me to believe we would raise a lot more than 5 million already.

Dude, a lot of people felt like they got burned during the last campaign. Many of them got excited and went all out last time and did not realize that it was mostly an educational campaign. Also, times are much tougher for many financially this time. Add to this that they have thrown in spoilers like Bachmann and Cain etc... that are all stealing the good Dr.'s message to steal some of Ron Paul's support early. Believe me when I say that a good strong showing at Ames will get many of them back in the game! (So to speak...) Things are looking great from where I stand...!

Well I suppose it is a matter of perspective. I am definitely one of those people who "felt" burned. Mainly because of how the money was spent...I was realistic about his chances and realized that an educational was probably the best he could do. But with almost 30 million, I thought they squandered that money.

But now that the campaign is moving in the right direction so I hope you are right that supporters will begin to re-engage with the campaigns efforts. I am still on the fence, I want to see the quality of the campaign ads and how Ron does at the next debate. If he doesn't take a crack at Romney or start talking in the affirmative, as in "As President I would never..."or "I would do x, y, and Z"...I would remain skeptical about the campaigns ability to expand beyond 10% polling.

But we'll see. 5 million is enough to do a lot in iowa and NH with right now! Let's hope we see some movement, no pun intended.

There was a thread last week regarding the Politico reporter where roughly half the posts got deleted. Amazing. Amazing.

That's me. I also feel like nothing is fundamentally different this time around.

Ace, trust me there are many fundamentally different things.

Not to knock the last group of people - I know some of them fairly well - but the current batch are people that have won elections, raised piles of money and had an impact on American politics in a fantastic way. Largely, the key strategists and talent on the current staff are staying pretty low key, so I will divulge nothing. My only hint would be to learn more about the "forced-unionization" issue.

Dr. Paul now has a son in the Senate. Notice he's not campaigning for him yet. Just wait until he starts. People closely associated with that winning campaign are working on the current effort. Wenzel Strategies has come on board. Doug Wead has come on board. There is organization in key states like Iowa and New Hampshire, and more will come very soon. There is a massive training going on in September in Reno that will specifically benefit Ron Paul's core activists.

Ron Paul is regularly featured in the media, and there is a steady stream of articles and blogs every day. He is now a major player in American politics, is (along with his son) a growing household name (especially among the politically aware - who are the people who vote in primaries), and his message and issues set is increasingly gaining credibility among the more honest news/criticism sources.

Remember, $1 raised early is worth $5 raised later. Keep your head up, Ace (and open your wallet!)
