Proof That RP Could Be President? (Koch Brothers Show Some Interest)

Just looked at the schedule and it turns out my teacher from towson is introducing Ron Paul. Small world haha

Lew sometimes should keep his mouth shut.

However, the Kochs, after donating to the great libertarian freedom fighter Trey Grayson in the primary, did donate to Rand in the general election. Methinks they like to be on the winning side....or ALL potential winning sides....

Intrade ticked up on the general election a bit too. Not hugely, but Ron had been at something like 2% to win the general and MB had been about 6or 7%, now Ron is at about 6%, haven't checked in on MB.

Has Ron accepted this invitation?

If he can, I'm sure he will. He speaks to everyone. He's like a missionary that way.

It doesn't matter if he and the Kochs have a dislike stretching back multiple decades, he just wants to reach the audience.

His schedule might not allow it, though.

If Ron Paul teams up with the Koch brothers, i'm pretty sure 95% of the far lefts heads would explode instantly in a red mist of angst and fury.

Yeah, and the Kochs are aware of that. Up to now we've been able to point to the Koch's hatred of Ron as a sort of validation of character, now we'd have to make do with the 30 year record.

I'm absolutely certain the Kochs want influence, at least on priorities, since there are places they do overlap in beliefs without Ron changing anything. They would LOVE his message to incorporate things they want, and maybe there will be places Ron is ok with it.

But if anyone earned our faith in their character, it is Ron.

This is probably just a shrewd move by the Koch's to play nice with an opponent whose credibility and popularity is rising, with the intention of siphoning off supporters.

We've seen them invite arch nemesis Soros to give a keynote speech at a Cato Institute event on Hayek in April. This was while they were engaged in a huge media battle that brought the Kochs into the limelight - not where they want to be. This may be a similar move here to avoid confrontation with a man whose influence is rising.

stupid huck-al-bee on fox this morning said ron paul may come in 1st or 2nd in iowa straw poll today.

then said that would spoil the results.

Their main interest in politics is to maximize their money.
Almost every business's interest in politics is money. Which is why the government should be very limited and small so that (ideally) there is no concentration of power for any interests to seek after and control.

If we're really still splitting hairs between the CATO and Lew Rockwell crowd we're already screwed.

You may not agree with all of the CATO platform but their ideas are still worlds better than the typical Republican or Democrat platforms.

I'll take a typical CATO libertarian over anyone in Congress not named Paul any day of the week.
They are two different animals. Cato is to affect governmental policy. Mises is to educate. So their goals are not the same in that regard.

However it would be nice if the rift was made smaller as I think it would benefit all to work in conjunction with each other.

If he can take $500 from a white supremacist group, he can take $5 million from a semi-libertarian organization if he can get it. Like he said about that $500, that's less money available for them to spread their lies. :D

They could be donating to him knowing that a lot of Democrats and Unions despise them?

If he loses their vote he stands no chance..
