How likely would it be to find pre 1965 dimes and quarters in circulation right now ?

I just went through a couple jars of loose change we had and found none. I found
lots of pre 1982 copper pennies but no silver.

Thanks,
Waldo

Does the phrase "needle in a haystack" tell you anything? :)

It's not very likely at all. If you want any, you'll have to try coin shops or online.

Once in a blue moon. Lots of people have some hoarded, though. Lots of people.

I worked for 6 months as a cashier in a super market, and after looking at every coin that came my way(many thousands) I only found 6 silver coins.

4 silver dimes, 1 silver quarter, and 1 silver wartime nickel.

Let me put it this way, I've been looking in my change for 18 years and only found one silver coin (1964 dime).

I just found my first one ever. I'm 29. It clanked funny, so I looked at it more closely.

I went to the bank several months ago and picked up two rolls of quarters and one roll of Dollars just as an experiment. No Silver in those rolls.

It wasn't a total failure.....I still have a lot of loose change rolling around in the car for parking meters. :) The "Silver" dollars were unwilling taken by local store cashiers.

By the way.....When I went into the bank I had to give my name before I could get the coins. You would have thought that I was trying to buy Oxycotin or Cocain.

I have 2 silver quarters that I happened upon in the last 4 years. I wasn't actively trying to find any but the weight, sound and look of them is distinct enough that I noticed them in change and saved them....I don't think they are worth much though.

From experience, if you dig through 20 pennies, you'll find between 1-4 copper pennies on average. Your best bets are grocery stores, etc. Banks usually give you relatively new coins.

Almost three FRNs each. And that's if they are neither rare nor in particularly good condition.

There has been a lot of inflation in my lifetime. I remember my dad grouching about 'teaching (me) the value of a dollar'. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have asked, "When? Today? Or two years ago?" And I'd have been in trouble yet again.

I'm rich..mwahahaha..well, at least now I don't have to feel completely left out of the gold and silver threads. :)

Remember seeing old photos of eateries where they advertised hamburgers for a quarter? Those quarters will still get you a decent sized hamburger, even after all these years. That's why we love them.
