27% of Republicans in the state say Cruz would be their top choice for the nomination to 15% for Jeb Bush, 11% for Rand Paul and Chris Christie, and 9% for Paul Ryan. Perry comes in 6th place at 7%, leading only Marco Rubio at 6%, Rick Santorum at 4%, and Bobby Jindal at 3%.

Cruz is absolutely crushing (39%) the very conservative vote there, I think a lot of that would go to Rand should Cruz not run. In crosstabs that seem to defy belief, Rand is in last place amongst the 18-45 age group, tied with Bobby Jindal getting 2% of the vote.

Wow they're proud of their cruz. If Rand is to get it done it he and Cruz will need to not run against each other in the primary and let a Bush or Christie get in.

That to me is the important thing. The two of them need to hash it out before 2016. If they both run a moderate will once again win the Republican nomination.

Don't agree with this at all. Rand needs conservative voices out there, bringing people over to his side. Cruz has been very effective at bringing over average Republicans to Paul's message, and after converting them it is very hard to go back to a Bush or Christie. Paul is the better messenger, but more people will listen if it's Rubio/Paul/Bush/Christie/Cruz on that stage versus Paul/Ryan/Christie/Bush/Jindal or what have you. Cruz, Paul, and to a lesser extent Rubio are putting together a majority coalition far more conservative than the 2008 and 2012 electorates that elected McCain and Romney.

It might. The results show Clinton and Cruz in a head-to-head race almost within the margin of error. Then again, that suggests (to me) that this survey is BS.

I think its just name recognition, Hilary will beat anybody until we get to the real deal.

I'm not that surprised Cruz is leading, he is extremely popular in Texas, what I am surprised about is why Rand is third and only with 11%, it does not reflect the popularity he is receiving in almost all of the other states that have seen surveys recently.

Texas will follow whoever the frontrunner is at that time anyways...sad but true.

But Cruz doesn't live in and didn't recently participate in three elections in any other states. Cruz is very popular with the youth in TX, that's my impression. If it was another state, many of those youth that support Cruz in TX would be more likely to hear about Rand (as he is much better known on the national level than Cruz is) and would support Rand.

Chris Christie consistently polls better head-to-head against Hillary Clinton than any other Republican. Rand should try to figure out what he's doing right and imitate it.

Its only because he thanked Obama for good leadership during the New Jersey disaster last year that the MSM made all this bullshit up about how they have a bromance, making the right hate Christie and the left love him. Its stupid MSM propaganda...

Calling it "stupid" doesn't change the fact that MSM propaganda radically influences elections. Being the beneficiary of it is a good thing.

Nah. It is also because he also is for stronger gun control and other socialist issues that many moderate people like...

You only end up being a beneficiary of it if you're on board with their agenda, which we are most certainly not. Anyone benefiting from MSM propaganda is far more likely to be an enemy than anything else.

I agree with this. I'd say that Rand should hop on board with some of these issues, but doing so would probably kill his chances in the primary.

Why do Republicans have to be so stupid? =(

To which agenda are you referring?

I don't think labeling people "enemy" is very helpful.

Rand does what Rand does, you can't just ask him to keel over to Obamanomics just because its popular. Rand has been tainted with the left already, the only thing he can do is continue to fight for what he believes in and get the real logically thinking progressives to see that he is serious about things like non-interventionism, anti-drone, pro civil liberties, pro hemp, states rights, etc...

We live in a democracy - saying popular things is a prerequisite to gaining power. There is no requirement that the things one says and the things one does be in any way related.

In what way(s) has Rand been "tainted with the left"? He's still polling worse than Christie against Clinton, so I dare say he could stand a good deal more tainting, but for the fact that he has to win a primary first.

Persuading progressives is an exercise in futility - hardcore partisans vote for "their" party with overwhelming consistency, even when the other side puts up a moderate. The key to victory in a close general election is winning over the mushy middle. This requires pandering to retards and saying things that make intelligent people cringe.

Wait, what? what exactly do you want him to do? Pretend to suck up to Obama like Christie and talk about how he is for stricter gun control? lol what the heck?

Rand is doing fine, let's just leave it at that. You want to increase his popularity with the left, go to a liberal area and start knocking on doors.

Jeb Bush? We haven't had enough of the Bush family, eh?

No, I'm pretty sure doing that would kill his chances of winning a Republican primary.

I haven't done a ton of research on national polling data, so I'm not sure exactly what he ought to do to improve his standing with the general electorate. I've simply expressed concern that he is consistently running behind Christie and Clinton by a fairly large margin, and I'd like to see that change. What do you think he could do to make that happen?

No he's not, he's getting slaughtered in head-to-heads with Clinton and doing worse than Christie.

I do my part.
